A teensy-tiny bit of movement.

The Coupeville High School track and field team competed at two meets this past week, closing out the regular season, while retaining its presence on the individual top 10 performance lists.

All five Wolves who were on the chart a week ago are still there, with Lyla Stuurmans appearing twice.

She got bumped down one rung in the 400, as did Katie Marti in the shot put.

Meanwhile, Reese Wilkinson held her spot, but set a PR, lobbing the discus 15 inches further than ever before.

Up next? The Northwest 2B/1B League Championships this Wednesday, May 1 in Mount Vernon.

As the Wolves prep for that meet, with an eye on districts and the state meet after that, a look at where CHS athletes pop up on the top 10 chart for 2B through April 29:

GIRLS:

400 — Lyla Stuurmans (9th) 1:04.72

Shot Put — Katie Marti (9th) 33-05

Discus — Reese Wilkinson (9th) 107-00

Long Jump — Stuurmans (5th) 15-08

BOYS:

High Jump — Nick Guay (3rd-tie) 6-00

Pole Vault — Cael Wilson (4th-tie) 11-00

There’s movement on the charts.

After several weeks of having four Wolves on the top 10 lists for 2B athletes, the Coupeville High School track and field team has added to its numbers.

Coming off of strong performances at a home meet, CHS juniors Lyla Stuurmans and Katie Marti join Reese Wilkinson, Cael Wilson, and Nick Guay among the state’s current best.

At the same time, Carly Burt, through no fault of her own, slips off the charts for the moment, as several pole vaulters passed her best height.

But never fear, the week ahead presents two more opportunities for the Wolves to throw down top times, heights, and distances.

Coupeville is slated to travel to Lynden Thursday and Lakewood Saturday as the regular season comes to an end.

Where the Wolves land on the top 10 charts through April 22:

GIRLS:

400 — Lyla Stuurmans (8th) 1:04.72

Shot Put — Katie Marti (8th) 33-05

Discus — Reese Wilkinson (9th) 105-09

Long Jump — Stuurmans (5th) 15-08

BOYS:

High Jump — Nick Guay (3rd-tie) 6-00

Pole Vault — Cael Wilson (4th-tie) 11-00

Not a whole lot of movement.

Coupeville High School track and field got back at it this past weekend, snapping a two-week layoff with an appearance at a meet in Forks.

The Wolves, who have a home meet this Wednesday, followed by a trip to the Lil’ Norway Invitational Saturday, retained their spots on the statewide top 10 rankings, with just a little tweaking here and there.

CHS currently has four athletes sitting among the best in 2B.

As of April 15:

GIRLS:

Discus — Reese Wilkinson (6th) 104-04.50

Pole Vault — Carly Burt (10th-tie) 7-00

BOYS:

High Jump — Nick Guay (3rd-tie) 6-00

Pole Vault — Cael Wilson (4th-tie) 11-00

They defeated their greatest opponent – inactivity.

Coupeville High School track and field stars haven’t competed since March 28, but four Wolves have stubbornly held on to their spots on the Top 10 lists for 2B athletes.

Three of the four saw their rankings slip just a bit, as other teens had a chance to post new times and heights, but now it’ll be their turn.

The quartet, and their teammates, return to action this coming Saturday, with an appearance at the Forks Lion Club Invitational.

After that the Wolves have four more regular season meets as April plays out, before beginning the postseason run in May.

As classes start back up, and CHS track returns to the day-to-day grind, a look at where Cow Town sits among 2B’s best:

GIRLS:

Discus — Reese Wilkinson (7th) 104-04.50

Pole Vault — Carly Burt (8th-tie) 7-00

BOYS:

High Jump — Nick Guay (2nd-tie) 6-00

Pole Vault — Cael Wilson (5th-tie) 11-00

“Bow before the fury of our mighty bats, puny mortals!” (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

We love it. We hate it. We sort of respect it.

With spring sports in full swing, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association is back at it, issuing RPI rankings and hoping we’ll take them seriously.

At least this time, unlike during basketball season, there doesn’t appear to be any non-existent teams atop the 1B rankings. So, that’s a start.

And, of course, since we’re shameless hype hounds here at Coupeville Sports, if the WIAA plops a Wolf team somewhere in their top 10, we’re going to acknowledge it.

So, with that being said, the first RPI rankings of spring showcase the CHS softball sluggers at #10 among 2B schools.

Some semi-official respect.

The Wolf sluggers, who start three 8th graders and two freshmen, while having no seniors on the roster, are a sturdy 5-1 on the season.

Spring break has put a temporary hold on games, but Coupeville returns to action next week with four games — two at home and two on the road.

After that, a continued rise up the ol’ rankings chart should be in order.
