Cake day for terrific trio!!

Some days just have more magic about them than others.

March 28 is one of those days, if you’re a CHS Wolf fan, with at least three current athletic stars having been born on this day.

Freshman Ben Olson, junior Mitchell Losey and senior Micky “Two Fists” LeVine all claim today as the day they shot into the world, one eye already set on claiming a spot among the elite.

Olson, a rampaging beast on the basketball court and baseball diamond, is one of those kids who grew up in the video stores I once worked at — Videoville and David’s DVD Den — and it’s still a bit odd to see him now being old enough to play high school sports.

But he’s a good guy, a solid older brother to my former video store “assistant manager,” the irrepressible Daniel Olson — now a 6th grade hoops whiz himself — and a talented athlete.

Losey is a vital link in a family that boasts a rich Wolf heritage that includes numerous former and future CHS athletes such as dad Scott and younger brother Shane.

Whether crackin’ helmets on the football field or flying around the track oval, Mitchell is a gutsy, hard-working dude who also, unlike a lot of male high school athletes, is willing to vamp a bit for the camera from time to time.

And then we have the real MVP, the two-fisted terror of the soccer pitch, Miss LeVine.

In reality, she is among the sweetest, most laid-back young women you will meet, a devoted big sis to Jae and Izzy and a Twitter prankster of the finest quality.

On the playing field, she is nimble, she is quick, she can be a deadly scorer, and, here is where the nickname comes in, deeply committed to protecting her teammates.

While playing select ball, a rival team tried to rough up a couple of her soccer sisters.

At which point the serene LeVine popped her knuckles and offered to drop kick all their rears, two at a time, and then take out the ref for aiding and abetting the harassment.

Do not mess with the petite one, for her heart is bigger than your whole body.

United by a birthday and their athletic contributions to their school, the trio are among the best and brightest Cow Town has to offer.

To all three of you, happy birthday.

And, if anyone is thinking about messing with your birthday cake, let ’em know, “Two Fists” don’t play that game.

Two Fists, two goals, one win!!

Having 11 players is overrated.

Low on players once again due to a rash of injuries, illness and vacations (they started the game a man down), the GU19 Whidbey Islanders select soccer squad brushed it off and decimated visiting Seattle United Shoreline 4-2 Sunday.

While a lack of depth (and absolutely no bench) might have been a problem — the Islanders borrowed a guest player from a U16 team and the 11th player showed up several minutes into the contest — the players on the field were primed.

CHS senior Micky LeVine sparked the attack, as the mighty mite known as “Two Fists” popped in a pair of goals — one for each teammate-protecting hand.

Gillian Crossley was actually the first Islander to find pay-dirt, as she messed with the Seattle goalie by drilling the ball off of her, then snatching the rebound on her left foot and sliding it into a now-empty net.

Seattle momentarily knotted the score at 1-1 on a play that even the visiting coach agreed was flat out wrong. Not that he gave the goal back.

“It was a very, very bad out-of-bounds call that should have been ours and when my defense pushed forward to take our throw they called it the other way and they took a quick throw catching us out of position and scored on a one-on-one with our keeper,” said Islander coach Sean LeVine. “The call was so bad that the other team’s coaches agreed that that should have been our ball.”

After a scrum in front of the net resulted in a second quirky goal for Seattle, Whidbey’s offense took over the game and gave Islander goalie Kenzie Perry some breathing room.

Jenna Cooley, a GU16 player making her debut with the Islanders, knocked a superb cross to Micky LeVine, who dazzled a defender and shot past her, sending a gorgeous curling shot that found the near post for “the goal of the game.”

Revived and on the attack, the Islanders poured it on, with Crossley setting up Lydia Peplinski for the game-buster before “Two Fists” hammered home her second score of the afternoon to cap things.

After the fluky goals, Perry was rock-solid, snatching 12 saves to thwart any hopes Seattle might have had of staging a comeback.

With no subs, which meant every Islander played the full 90 minutes, the difference was the conditioning work put in by Whidbey.

“We were the much better team, and despite the result I feel like we did not play to our full potential today,” Sean LeVine said. “It could have easily been 5-0, but again we had no subs, and our players got a full 90 in which makes us better.

“We also got away with no injuries. I’m proud of our conditioning so far this season.”

South Whidbey supernova Kendra Warwick, back in the lineup after missing the previous contest, claimed Player of the Game.

“We really missed her last week,” LeVine said. “Her defensive presence, possession, and leadership proved invaluable today.

“She has the ability to rally the troops and direct traffic, making everyone around her better,” he added. “She is a really special player.”

The Islanders will have several weeks with no games due to the holidays. They return to the pitch with a game Jan. 10 in Redmond against a Crossfire Select team.

Micky LeVine will knock a girl out.

Now, you may be surprised to hear that, since the Coupeville High School junior seems like a pretty easy-going young woman who usually is wearing a smile.

Add on that she seems like a devoted older sister to younger siblings Jae and Izzy, and she doesn’t fit the classic profile of a brawler.

But mess with one of her soccer teammates, and the petite one will unleash the wrath of freakin’ God upon your head.

Her enduring moment on the pitch — and she’s had a ton of big ones playing for both CHS and the Whidbey Islanders GU18 select squad — came when she felt one of her girls had been unnecessarily roughed up by a rival team.

Out came the fists, like Wolverine popping the claws, and LeVine offered to drop-kick the entire other squad, and the ref as well, into tomorrow.

Rarely has a yellow card been more appreciated by a player’s coach and teammates.

Interesting fact: the other team immediately stopped trying to push the Islanders around.

And thus a nickname was born.

Well, at least in my mind, it was. Who knows if anyone else calls Ms. LeVine “Two Fists?”

They should, though.

Today, as she celebrates her 17th birthday — rumor has it that her arrival forced mom Joline to skip out early on an episode of “Days of Our Lives” — Micky is a justly-celebrated soccer and tennis standout.

She’s a bright, shining star who deserves her moment in the spotlight.

Just don’t get between her and her birthday cake, that’s all I’m sayin’. Cause she has two fists, and she knows how to use ’em.
