Hope Lodell and Dane Lucero

Two empires have united in our latest Wolf Nation wedding of the century.

This past Sunday, a day after dad Aaron finished coaching the Coupeville High School softball team at the state tourney, Dane Lucero exchanged vows with fellow Wolf grad Hope Lodell.

The duo, who started dating in 2017, have been off-Island in St. Louis the last two years but are now back full-time in Cow Town.

Lodell, a 2018 Coupeville grad, was an Olympic League MVP as a volleyball spiker, and an All-League centerfielder during her softball days.

Plus, she could do a handstand at like three days old and often amused herself by doing pullups on the overhang on the CHS softball dugout.

One of a handful of Wolf athletic greats who I’ve actually known since the day they were born, Hope is a bright, shining supernova of awesomeness.

And her new husband, a 2019 CHS grad, is a pretty good dude, as well.

After arriving from Missouri, he played football, basketball, and baseball for the Wolves and was greatly appreciated by his coaches.

A rock-solid team player who excelled in whatever role he was asked to fill, Dane set a great example for the pack of Lucero sisters who have followed in his footsteps.

Sylvia Hurlburt and CJ Smith are joined on their wedding day by (l to r) Scout Smith, Destiny Cleary, and Hunter Smith.

We had the wedding of the summer, and now we have the wedding of the fall.

Following on the heels of former Coupeville High School Athlete of the Year winners Hunter Smith and Payton Aparicio uniting in August, now we have the nuptials of CJ Smith and Sylvia Hurlburt.

The former played football, basketball, and baseball for the Wolves alongside his younger brother, with his biggest moment when he pitched the CHS diamond squad to its first league title in 25 years.

CJ’s bride was a standout cheerleader and track and field star who brought home four state meet medals while giving me considerable (well-deserved) side-eye when reminding me I should be at every one of her competitions.

The pics seen above and below, from Sylvia’s wedding day, come to us courtesy first-ballot Coupeville Sports Hall o’ Famer Valen Trujillo and Charlotte Young, legendary Wolf Mom who has witnessed both of her sons wed in recent months.

Two empires unite, two stars soar together, and David gets all the page hits.

I said, all of them.

The wedding of the summer, at least for Wolf Nation, went down this weekend, as Coupeville grads Hunter Smith and Payton Aparicio swapped vows.

The union brings together two CHS Athlete of the Year winners, while raising the possibility that any future offspring might add to the family’s trophy case.

While wearing red and black, of course, or there will be much whining from this direction.

But anyways, on to the photos, which is why you’re really here.

The lead-in to the big day.

Older brother CJ engages Hunter in a battle for suit supremacy. Who wore it better?

Lil sis’ Scout reminds her brother she went to state in more sports than he did.

Payton preps with mom Tami and big sis Sydney.

Payton’s aunt, Sarah Stuurmans, and cousins Lyla and Tenley class up the joint.

CJ hugs it out with fiancée Sylvia Hurlburt, and I start counting the days until I can publish their wedding pics.

Payton’s former teammates, Hannah Davidson (left) and Maya Tooomey-Stout, reunite with Scout.

Hunter gets the thumb of approval from father-in-law Mitch Aparicio.

The start of their next chapter.

Jae (left) and Heidi LeVine step into a new world. (Photo courtesy Sean LeVine)

She was a first ballot Coupeville Sports Hall o’ Famer, a bright, shining supernova whose awesomeness couldn’t be contained by a single nickname.

So, at various points, Jae LeVine, one of the bravest athletes I have written about, and the only one whose Senior Night made me cry — after I left the field — has been known by many monikers.

JaeBird.

Flash.

Joltin’ Jae.

Lil’ Miss Awesome.

A softball star who blasted game-winning hits off the best pitcher in the league, then danced on second base — like full-on, body-poppin’, boogy-time moves — she has never allowed her ongoing serious heart issues to slow her down.

Jae played basketball until doctors took the game away, pumping her fists while backpedaling after draining three-balls.

She played volleyball, sprinting in and out of the gym and hitting dad Sean in the face with her discarded second uniform, until the same medical folk said no more.

Put drumsticks in her hands, and Jae brought the gym alive, her impish grin telling the true tale as she went off on her own riff, music teachers be danged.

Flash has survived intense surgeries, shared her story to provide comfort and hope for others, has established her own career in the medical world — like mom and pop before her — and now, as of Wednesday, gotten hitched.

As Jae and Heidi (Littrell) LeVine head off to start their wedded life, Coupeville Sports joins all of those wishing the couple all the best.

I told myself I wouldn’t cry … but we know how that worked out last time.

Coupeville High School athletic legend turned Wolf coach Megan Smith prepares to become Mrs. Bennett Richter. (Dina Ginn photos)

Two empires unite.

Coupeville High School girls basketball coach Megan Smith and Wolf football guru Bennett Richter were wed Saturday, and we have pics.

They’re shot by Dina Ginn, come to us courtesy of the former Ms. Smith (now Mrs. Richter), and continue a tradition started when Megan’s brother Ian wed in 2013.

That tradition?

As shown here and at https://coupevillesports.com/2013/06/29/ian-smith-weds-thousands-of-women-cry-in-the-streets/ it’s apparently my burning desire to be Coupeville’s answer to People magazine.

Coupeville’s new head football coach joins the family.

Tasty treats, artfully plated.

CHS Athletic Director (and proud papa) Willie Smith walks the bride in.

Welcome to a woodsy wonderland.

The “I do” portion of the festivities.

Smoochy-boochies makes it official.
