First season, first title game.

Coupeville High School grad Dominic Coffman, who now plays semi-pro football in Spain, will play for a championship Saturday, May 4.

He and his teammates with the Las Rozas Black Demons will square off with their arch-rivals, OSO Rivas.

Coffman and Co. are 8-1 after a playoff win over the Barcelona Dragons.

The former Wolf has been a force on both sides of the ball during his debut season overseas, scoring 38 points and cracking 500+ yards as a running back.

He also had 15 tackles and an interception on defense during the regular season.

Bringing the pain in Spain.

During his Coupeville days, Coffman, a 2023 grad, went to the state tourney in football, basketball, and track and field, joining Jonathan Valenzuela as the only Wolf boys to pull off the trifecta since at least the ’70s.

He ran a leg on a 4 x 100 relay unit which finished second in all of 2B, while earlier being named Northwest 2B/1B League MVP for his play on the gridiron.

From Coupeville to Spain, Dominic Coffman continues to tear up the gridiron.

“The Dominator” is playoff-bound.

Coupeville grad Dominic Coffman, now playing football overseas in Spain, is headed to the postseason with the Las Rozas Black Demons.

Having completed a 7-1 regular season, the gridiron crew will carry a #2 seed into the playoffs and open on the road against the Barcelona Dragons.

Coffman, playing in his first season in Spain, has been a force on both sides of the ball.

The former Wolf has picked up 500+ yards as a running back, accounting for 38 points while frequently carrying would-be tacklers along with him for the ride.

On the defensive side Coffman has recorded 15 tackles and an interception.

During his days growing up in Coupeville, he was an All-Conference player and Northwest 2B/1B League MVP during football season, while advancing to state in three sports.

As a senior, Coffman contributed to a Wolf basketball team which went 16-0 in the regular season and won the program’s first district title in 50+ years.

He also competed in track and field, topping things off by running a leg on a 4 x 100 relay team, which finished 2nd in 2B at the state meet.

Logan Martin lets it fly. (Photo courtesy Bob Martin)

All around the world, the Wolves were howling.

Four different Coupeville High School grads were in action at the next level this weekend, with action going down in three sports and on two continents.

What was happening:

Logan Martin:

Now a sophomore track and field star at Central Washington University, he claimed a pair of top-three finishes at the PLU Open in Tacoma.

Martin finished second in the hammer throw Friday, tossing the implement 176 feet, nine inches, then came back around Saturday to earn third in the shot put with a throw of 42-8.75.

Dominic Coffman:

The 2023 CHS grad is playing semi-pro football in Spain, and he rushed for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns Saturday as the Las Rozas Black Demons won 44-13.

That gives the former Wolf four scores across the past two games for a gridiron squad which is now 6-0 on the season.

Tate Wyman:

The Oregon Tech freshman ran in two track events Saturday at the Pacific Northwest Invite in Corvallis.

Wyman placed seventh in the 110 hurdles in 19.13 seconds, and 17th in the 200, where he set a PR with a time of 24.42.

Caleb Meyer:

The former Wolf saw his basketball career at Skagit Valley College end Saturday, with the Cardinals falling 79-77 to Tacoma in an overtime thriller in the semifinals of the Northwest Athletic Conference tourney.

SVC finished 26-6 as Meyer saw court time in 20 games during his sophomore campaign.

Even in a game featuring a murderer’s row of basketball players, Logan Downes made his presence felt.

There weren’t a ton of available shots Saturday at the All-State game, with a stacked roster of #1 options letting fly almost every time they touched the ball.

But Downes, the leading male scorer in Coupeville High School hoops history, did a lot of the small things.

A rebound here, a steal there, an assist to set up a temporary teammate for a bucket.

And when the ball did momentarily land on his fingertips, the Wolf senior rained down one of the prettiest three-balls of the afternoon.

Downes finished with five points, as the 2B all-stars routed the best from 1B to a 120-82 tune.

Adna’s Luke Salme and Brewster’s Brady Wulf topped all scorers with 19 apiece, while Lincoln Foland of Liberty (Spangle) banked in 18.

The 2B vs 1B showdown was one of four games played Saturday.

The other two all-senior games went to the lower classification, with 3A toppling 4A 141-106 and 1A slipping past 2A 99-90.

Things started off with a Futures game, featuring the best non-seniors in the state.

Anacortes junior Davis Fogle, who played against Coupeville as an 8th grader when he suited up for Mount Vernon Christian, poured in 39 points in that contest.

Before each game, the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association handed out its awards for state player and coaches of the year.

At the 2B level, those went to Colfax coach Reece Jenkins and Napavine gunner James Grose.

He’s running wild.

Coupeville grad Dominic Coffman broke through the defense Saturday in Spain, crashing into the end zone with a pair of touchdown runs as he helped keep his gridiron squad undefeated.

Led by their American assassin, Las Rozas thumped visiting Camioneros de Coslada 58-13 to get to 5-0 on the season.

Both of Coffman’s scoring jaunts came on plays where the defense had a chance to bring him down and failed. Badly.

On the first run, the former Wolf cut to the right, bounced outside and blew past three would-be tacklers as he rambled nearly untouched to the promised land.

The second time around, Coffman started up the middle, before blowing through a pack of defenders, leaving them grasping at air as he finished his run.

“That’s two touchdowns for me! And there’s more where that came from!!”

The former Coupeville grad, who moved to Spain after graduation this past spring, was a three-sport star during his days in Cow Town.

He was a vital part of Wolf football, basketball, and track teams which went to the state championships, while he also earned multiple individual honors for his play.

The biggest of those was being tabbed as the Northwest 2B/1B League MVP for his play on the gridiron during his senior season.
