Lazurus lives!

Climbing off his death bed, everyone’s favorite camera clicker, John Fisken, staggered down to Coupeville and ignored being sick long enough to snap a ton of pics at this afternoon’s CHS Homecoming parade.

Next time you see him (if we didn’t just put him in the hospital…), maybe buy the guy a Diet Coke to say thanks.

The real royalty, the women who make everything work smoothly behind the scenes. Left to right, it’s Aimee Bishop, Barbi Ford and Eileen Stone.

It was a quiet Friday, until a parade went and broke out.

Keeping alive the revived tradition of having a big, dramatic Homecoming parade wend its ways through town before the big game, Coupeville High School got festive in the sunshine.

Snapping away for those of us who weren’t there was rovin’ camera man John Fisken, who provides us with the pics above.

P.S. — Game time is 5:30 PM tonight at Mickey Clark Field. Beat Chimacum and the Wolves clinch a playoff berth.

Today’s the day.

Homecoming fever sweeps through Cow Town, plus there’s a playoff spot on the line.

Festivities hit the open road with a parade through town that kicks off at 2:40 PM.

Said parade goes down Terry Road, then winds itself along S. Main and N. Main before heading for the waterfront and back.

The football game — a battle between Coupeville (1-5) and Chimacum (0-6) — kicks off at Mickey Clark Field at 5:30.

Win and the Wolves clinch a playoff spot, while keeping their hopes of finishing as high as second in the 1A Olympic League alive.

Shame on you, Canada.

Proving the “local” newspapers have learned nothing after the debacle of last year, we now sit three full days away from what is, for a small town, a big deal.

That deal is Coupeville High School’s Homecoming celebration, which included a parade through town, halftime festivities and the best football game I may have witnessed in 24 years of covering sports on Whidbey Island.

But, other than a story on the game (Sports Editor Jim Waller is on top of his game), the Canuck-owned Whidbey papers would have you believe none of that happened.

Not a single photo can be found on either the Whidbey News-Times or Whidbey Examiner web sites, as we careen head-long into being 72 hours past the events.

During that time, we here at Coupeville Sports have already published 50+ photos.

Cause, unlike the hosers up in Moose Jaw, we understand the importance of documenting small town life for the people who live in our small town.

Maybe the “local” newspapers will catch up to the rest of us, one day. Maybe next year.

If they’re still here…
