Sarah Wright (33) owns the paint. Everyone else is just renting space.

Tia Wurzrainer runs the offense.

First they cracked Granite. Then they swept ’em up.

Throwing down beat-downs on host Granite Falls, both of the Coupeville Middle School girls’ varsity basketball squads won handily Monday.

The 7th grade Wolves strolled to a 34-20 win, while the 8th grade team ran away with a 37-18 victory behind the play of Ema Smith and Lindsey Roberts.

Roberts tore up the Tiger defense, dropping a team-high 14 that included a flawless 8-of-8 performance at the charity stripe.

CMS will wrap its hoops season with a road game at Langley Thursday, Mar. 12. Tip-off is 3 PM.

The future of Wolf hoops is a bright one.

At the high school level, the varsity girls’ squad went 15-7 and won a league title, while the JV went 14-5. Both teams were a flawless 9-0 in league play.

Meanwhile, the Coupeville Middle School teams, which will provide more weapons for the big leagues in the next year or two, are playing impressive ball of their own.

Roving photo man John Fisken was hanging around the gym Monday as the Wolves played their final home game of the season (they finish with three straight on the road) and snapped the pics above.

Coast to coast!!

Right back at it.

Two days after kicking off their season, the Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball players were back in their home gym Thursday, facing off with Island rival Langley.

“Get out your umbrella, cause I’m gonna make it rain!!”

“Block my shot? Not a chance, sister!!”

And the crowd (led by irrepressible future Wolf star Mollie Bailey, top left in red) goes wild.

Having left her defender sprawled on the floor, a young Wolf heads for the basket.

Raise your hands if you’re sure Coupeville is better than Granite Falls.

“The next sound you’ll hear is the ball hitting the bottom of the net, baby!!”

And we’re officially tipped off.

The Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball squads made their regular-season debut at home Tuesday, battling Granite Falls and being captured on film by roving photographer John Fisken.

In the night’s premier showdown, the Wolf 8th grade varsity came within a missed half-court shot at the buzzer of upending the Tigers.

Battling back from a double-digit deficit, Coupeville, which was playing without vacationing shooting star Lindsey Roberts, got scoring from four players.

Sarah Wright banged home 10 to pace the Wolves, while Kalia Littlejohn (8), Ashlie Shank (4) and Ema Smith (3) all chipped in.

It’s their time.

The opening days of practice are done and the Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball teams take the court for their first taste of competition this afternoon.

The Wolves will be in Langley for a jamboree (3 PM), before starting their eight-game regular season schedule at home Tuesday, Feb. 10 against Granite Falls.

Coupeville plays four of its first five at home (Feb. 12 against Langley, Feb. 25 against Sultan and March 2 against Lakewood), then closes with three straight on the road.
