Lucy Sandahl (middle, left) is the face of SPU crew. As she should be.

Lucy Sandahl has moved to the front of the class.

The Coupeville grad, now a senior at Seattle Pacific University, headlines the official 2024 rowing schedule.

While the former Wolf supernova technically shares space with a couple other Falcons, we all know who’s generating the most attention here.

It’s the Coupeville volleyball and track and field ace turned SPU coxswain.

If you want page hits, Instagram likes, and hype for your crew program, Lucy is the chosen one.

That’s just cold, hard facts, folks.

Lucy Sandahl was right at the heart of the action Sunday morning.

The Coupeville High School grad, now a senior at Seattle Pacific University, participated with her crew in Head of the Lake, the “largest fall rowing regatta on the West Coast.”

Sandahl was the coxswain for an SPU team which finished 5th in the women’s championship 8+ collegiate race, covering the course in 18 minutes, 25.43 seconds.

Head of the Lake, which starts on Lake Union and finishes at the University of Washington Shellhouse, has become an annual tradition since it debuted back in 1979.

What started as a small group of athletes from the Lake Washington Rowing Club getting together has blossomed into a major event which draws collegiate crews from seven states and Canada.

Master rowers often pop in from far-flung locales as well, with past participants hailing from places like Alaska, Colorado, and Maryland.

Sandahl, a 2020 CHS grad, played volleyball and competed in track and field during her time in Cow Town.

She and older sister Sophie were both part of the successful Seattle Pacific rowing program, until Sophie graduated from SPU after last season.

Lucy is a senior majoring in Physiology.

With Head of the Lake bringing an end to the fall crew competitions, she and her SPU teammates now head into winter training.

They will reemerge in the spring, ready for regatta season.

She’s back in the boat, directing traffic and keeping her rowers in line.

Coupeville grad Lucy Sandahl was the coxswain for two Seattle Pacific University boats Sunday, as the Falcons kicked off a new season with a strong showing at the American Lake Fall Classic.

The regatta went down in Lakewood, with the former Wolf ace in charge of both the 8+ and 4+ varsity boats.

SPU claimed 2nd place in both races with Sandahl in the bow, with the latter of those races drawing an eight-boat field.

The University of Portland finished 1st in both battles, nipping the Falcons at the line.

She’s graduated, but the honors keep on coming.

Coupeville’s Sophie Sandahl was one of four Seattle Pacific University rowers honored Wednesday, with the group earning Scholar-Athlete award recognition from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

The Whidbey wonder was joined by fellow Falcons Macie Leach, Audrey Rekedal, and Kalais Samuelson.

To earn CRCA honors, rowers had to meet certain criteria.

Athletes, who needed to be in years 2-5 of eligibility, had to have rowed in 75% of their school’s spring races, while achieving a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA for their career.

Sandahl, who attended Coupeville schools before later graduating from Oak Harbor High School, majored in art history, with a minor in museum studies at SPU.

Before her college graduation this spring, she joined with little sis Lucy to be part of a very-successful Falcon crew program.

Seattle Pacific rowers capped their season in May by placing 3rd in the team standings at the NCAA D-II Championships in New Jersey.
