Current Coupeville High School seniors Brett Arnold and Nick Streubel grew up to become kings of the football field, but, once upon a time, they were small guys just watching the big boys play games.
Then they became the big boys and other people started watching them.

Haley Sherman was born to ride.
The Coupeville High School senior, who grew up to be a volleyball and softball star, embraced motorcycles from a young age, as shown in today’s flashback photo.
Pick a sport and the multi-talented Sherman excels, helping keep alive the tradition of excellence attached to her last name — probably the most famous in town.
How good is she, exactly?
They named the street I live on after her.
Yeah, that good.

Coupeville’s Wonder Twins turn 17 tomorrow.
Marisa and Lucas Etzell will celebrate their birthdays in different countries, but the bond between the siblings never fades.
Both strong athletes — Marisa is a standout CHS soccer player and state meet veteran as a track runner, while Lucas is a Gold Medal-winning basketball player in the Special Olympics — they join older brother Ben and younger brother Nick to form a fearsome foursome.
They each have their own style.
Marisa is quiet but strong, able to hold her own with three brothers, while Lucas can talk to anyone, anytime and works his way through a crowd like a politician on the campaign trail, glad-handing everyone in sight.
They are both making an impact on the world, and it begins with their bond with each other.
May they celebrate many more birthdays together.

There are certain cultures where people don’t want their photographs taken, as they believe it steals their souls.
McKayla Bailey would have a really, really rough time living in those cultures.
The undisputed reigning Photo Bomb Queen of Coupeville High School (former champ Taya Boonstra is in exile, off the Island in college, these days) has an uncanny knack for hearing the smallest, quietest click of a camera.
If you shoot it, she will be there.
And that’s a guarantee.

They’ve been skilled all their lives.
It used to be arts and crafts, and now Coupeville High School three-sport stars Hailey Hammer and Makana Stone excel on the playing fields and hardcourts.
Basketball, softball, track, volleyball, soccer — it doesn’t matter the sport, pick one and they’ll dominate.
The hand-eye coordination and attention to detail? It came at an early age.
