The action was booming, inside and outside the baselines.

The Whidbey Island All-Stars juniors softball squad rolled to a pair of big wins Saturday, claiming a District 11 title and clinching a trip to the state tourney.

Trying to keep his cameras from melting in the blazing sun, ever-wandering photo whiz kid John Fisken was on hand to capture action in the opener.

Jamboree season is upon us.

As high school teams head towards the start of regular-season play, many of them are getting in some work in live action scenarios.

Coupeville High School football went first last weekend, volleyball heads to Oak Harbor Saturday, but Thursday was all about the booters.

The Wolf girls soccer squad and coach Kyle Nelson traveled up Island to Memorial Stadium, where they faced off with league rival South Whidbey and host Oak Harbor.

Popping in from his home in the big city, wanderin’ photo god John Fisken was on scene and captured the images seen above.

   Megan Thorn (5) is intent on keeping any and all pesky defenders far away from high-scoring teammate Cassidy Moody when she’s operating with the ball.

The Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball squads are the last teams still playing hoops in town, and they hit the midway point of their season Thursday.

As the Wolves faced off with visiting Sequim, travelin’ photo man John Fisken surprised everyone by popping into the gym to document the goings on.
