The gym was jammed, with body parts flying everywhere.

Saturday’s “Battle on the Island,” a taekwondo tourney run by Armstrong’s ATA Martial Arts, brought hundreds of fighters (and their support crew) to Coupeville High School.

In between the flying fists and lunging legs, intrepid photo guy John Fisken clicked away, and the pics above are hot off his camera.

Prepare for combat.

The Coupeville High School gym will be crammed full of taekwondo fighters Saturday, Feb. 24, as 200-250 competitors take to the mats to vie in the “Battle on the Island.”

Entrants are expected from multiple states and at least two countries (USA and Canada), and may run the gamut from ages 3-70.

The tourney, which is being run by Armstrong’s ATA Martial Arts, opens the doors at 7:30 AM.

Entry fee is $5.00 for fans, with ages five and under free.

The opening ceremonies kick off at 8:30, with the tourney action starting at 9:00 and running all day.

Multiple forms of taekwondo, some involving weapons, will be involved, with eight events in all.
