The pitch calls.

The Central Whidbey Soccer Club is looking for volunteer coaches to run U10 boys and U12 girls teams.

No prior coaching experience is required.

If the CWSC is unable to find coaches by the end of the week, it will have to combine its boys and girls U10 and U12 programs, making both co-ed.

Fall youth soccer beckons

Pitch mania sweeps Wolf Nation.

The Central Whidbey Soccer Club is currently registering players for its fall season, with all plans calling for a return to a normal season.

The rec soccer program is aimed at children who “desire to play soccer in a fun environment, with a level of competitiveness.”

Teams are offered for players from U6 to U15, with teams U10 and up playing games against clubs from North and South Whidbey.

Those contests are generally played on Saturdays in Coupeville, Oak Harbor or Langley.

Practices are in Coupeville, and are usually 2-3 times per week.

Registration closes September 1.

The club, which is run by volunteers, is also interested in adding new coaches.

Register now for youth soccer

Same sport, different look.

The Central Whidbey Soccer Club has opened registration for a spring season, though the ongoing pandemic will give things a slightly different look.

Practices begin April 12, but there won’t be games, at least at first.

The CWSC will operate an “Academy”-style season, with the hope that some “special events may be held on an occasional weekend.”

If that happens, players and parents will be notified well in advance.

Because of the change in format, registration has been reduced to $30 a player, which covers the player fee with the state and a CWSC t-shirt.

Five programs are currently offered — U10 teams for boys and girls, U12 teams for boys and girls, and a U15 coed team.

Cernick tabbed to lead CMS soccer

Reese Cernick will be a trailblazer.

Coupeville Middle School is launching its first-ever boys soccer team this fall, replacing a football program which was shuttered due to a lack of players.

Cernick, who has worked extensively with youth soccer programs in Central Whidbey, as both a coach and administrator, has been tabbed to lead the newest Wolf team.

His hiring as head coach will be official once approved by the school board at its Aug. 26 meeting.

CMS soccer joins cross country and volleyball, with all three fall programs kicking off practices Sept. 9.

The Wolf booters have a 10-game schedule for their inaugural season, one in which they will see the same opponents on a regular basis.

Coupeville faces Northshore Christian four times, while squaring off three times apiece with Lakewood and Granite Falls.

The first game in program history goes down Monday, Sept. 23 at home, when the Wolves welcome NSC to town.

Cernick owns and operates Whidbey Pest Control, but spends a fair amount of time around the soccer pitch.

He and wife Michelle, who will be assisting him with the CMS team, have coached U-15 coed squads for 10 seasons over a five-year period.

Before that they guided girls U-12 and U-13 programs, while also being instrumental in keeping the Central Whidbey Soccer Club operating in recent years.

Reese Cernick is the current president of CWSC, and he and his wife have three children who attend Coupeville High School – Chris, Autumn, and Aurora.
