Embrace your inner Larry Bird.

With the annual Tom Roehl Roundball Classic less than four weeks away (Saturday, Dec. 27 — 12-6:30 PM), the community basketball tourney/fundraiser has added a few new wrinkles this year.

Foremost is the inclusion of a three-point shooting contest and an exhibition game aimed at players 40+.

The two new additions will be on top of the usual tournament play, which draws Coupeville High School alumni and one-time rivals from other schools intent on recapturing their hardwood glory days.

The classic, run by the children of the late Wolf coach who it’s named for, raises money for scholarships which are dispersed by the Tom Roehl Foundation.

Help Big Ben help little kids!!

If you can spare a buck or two, you can help a whole bunch of people.

Former Coupeville High School baseball star Ben Etzell, now a freshman at Saint John’s University in Minnesota, is planning to take part in a campus-wide event to raise funds to support St. Jude’s lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children.

Students will be pulling an all-nighter Friday, Nov. 7 to draw attention to St. Jude’s work and Etzell needs to raise $100 to reach his fundraising goal and participate.

He’s almost halfway there, but could use a push from Wolf fans.

A smile that never quit!!

Wolf Nation has lost one of its staunchest supporters.

Lisa Prosser, who passed away Tuesday at 46, was a football mom through-and-through, but so much more.

Fiercely proud of her children, many of whom played sports for Coupeville before the family moved to Kentucky, she had a huge smile and welcomed everyone into her world.

My biggest memories of Lisa are actually not from various sports sidelines, but from my days at Videoville, as her kids poured through the door and then went flying every which way.

The Prossers could take over the whole store by themselves and yet, somehow there in the middle of the madness, Lisa was the calm, always-smiling center of the storm.

An Oak Harbor High School grad who married a CHS grad (Jerome Prosser), her memory will live on in Cow Town.

While most from this area won’t be able to attend services for her in Kentucky, we can reach out and help the family, which includes Tony, 25, Jake, 21, Colin, 18, and twins Kyle and Karly, 17.

The older brother of former Wolf football star Ben Haight continues to improve as he fights back from a horrific hit and run accident.

Gabe Kennedy, 25, whose mom Solea Kennedy is a well-known community volunteer with the Coupeville Food Bank, was hit May 8 while skateboarding in Reno. He lost a leg and was in a coma for several days.

In her most recent update on GoFundMe, a site that the family is using to raise funds to help cover the rapidly-spiraling medical expenses, Solea provided one of the most positive reports in recent times.

Oh boy, Gabe is getting to be quite popular with the staff. Having been here such a long time, he has made some great friends.

Since he is using a speaking valve, he has been keeping people entertained with his humor!

It is so good to see the twinkle back in his eye!

There are still hurdles to clear before getting him to rehab in Seattle, but progress is being made.

Gabe needs to get to eating and drinking and breathing without the trache. He needs to be able to tolerate hours of daily therapy.

We need to get logistics worked out for transport to Washington and get an approval from the UW acute rehab.
