Do not get between a Wolf and her basketball.

The Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball players are a fiesty bunch, as they proved time and again Monday during their home finale against Granite Falls.

Ripping down rebounds, lunging for loose balls and (once or twice) almost getting into MORTAL KOMBAT!!! (old school reference — ask your parents…) with the visiting Tigers, the Wolves upheld the honor of the red and black quite nicely.

Lounging down on the baseline, clicking away, was traveling photo man John Fisken, who offers up these pics and many more.

Never back down.

The girls on the Coupeville Middle School basketball squads may not say the words out loud, but their actions speak loudly.

Despite giving up some serious size to a visiting Northshore squad Monday, the 8th grade Wolves fought harder, ripped the ball down with more ferocity and dominated the boards en route to a big win.

The 7th grade team couldn’t overcome a rough second quarter, but also showed a fierce side that is nice to see.

With strong rebounders like Sage Renninger, Katrina McGranahan and Sarah Wright polishing their games and moving up to the high school in the next few years, the future for CHS basketball continues to get brighter.

On hand Monday was traveling photo man John Fisken, who snapped the pics above and a ton more. If you like what you see, head over to the links below and take a gander at what he has to offer.

Half of any purchases you make will go to fund college scholarships for Wolf student athletes.

The Wolves are on their way.

Making the first road trip during their eight-game season, the Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball teams are on a bus and headed to Granite Falls today.

To commemorate the adventure, we offer some fresh photos from John Fisken, taken during the Wolves’ opener against Langley.

There was no better varsity hoops team on Whidbey Island this season.

Led by seniors Amanda Fabrizi and Breeanna Messner, the Coupeville High School girls’ basketball squad won 10 games, including capturing a thrilling 42-41 home playoff victory over Meridian.

The other five varsity squads — Oak Harbor boys (4 wins) and girls (0), South Whidbey boys (6) and girls (3) and Coupeville boys (3) — won a combined 16 games, with four of those squads failing to make the playoffs.

The only one that did, the Falcon boys, beat an 0-22 Nooksack Valley team in the playoffs, but were bounced hard in their other two postseason games.

The Wolf girls came close in both of their playoff losses, falling to Mount Baker and Blaine on the road sandwiched around their season-defining, make-the-student-section-rush-the-floor win.

So, before the euphoria dissipates, let’s throw out some more John Fisken photos for your viewing pleasure.

As you look at them, say it proud, say it loud — best team on the Island, without a doubt.

Thursday night the Coupeville High School girls’ basketball team pulled off a thrilling 42-41 playoff win over visiting Meridian.

Several hours earlier, across the hallway, the young women who will one day inherit those Wolf uniforms made their season debut in front of their own packed gym.

Hosting Island rival Langley, the Coupeville Middle School hoops’ squads waged war in four games (8th grade varsity and JV and 7th grade varsity and JV), while traveling photographer John Fisken clicked away.
