Kiara (Burdge) Aguirre joins her big sis in being inducted.

They were born to be stars.

At least it seems that way, as, in all my seasons of watching Coupeville High School cheerleaders at work, few made the kind of memorable impact that the Burdge sisters did.

Kylie and Kiara, in seasons together and apart, embraced the cheer game, their coaches, teammates, and fellow students, and their community, with great fervor.

They weren’t just content to be cheerleaders, but were front and center all the way, thanks to a ton of hard work and naturally vibrant personalities.

The sister duo could be loud (when it mattered most), were always proud, and led by example, both rising to be captains in the Wolf program.

Away from the sidelines, they were brilliant students, both finishing their run at CHS in the top ten of their class academically.

You can also add in that they were as friendly and outgoing as any Wolf athletes I have ever written about, and passionate about their beliefs and convictions.

It’s not always easy to stand up and be publicly committed to your religion as teenagers, but Kylie and Kiara have always been open about their deep love for their Mormon faith, and I give them a lot of credit for that.

Whether you’re part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or not (and I’m not), it shouldn’t be hard to respect others for their beliefs, especially if they show a deep commitment and reverence for their faith, as the Burdge sisters always have.

But today, a couple of days after Kiara’s wedding day, we’re putting the focus primarily on their athletic achievements, since this blog is, technically at least, concerned with covering sports.

The debate over whether cheer is a sport should have ended a long time ago.

It’s a sport, and its athletes put in as much or more work than those in any other pursuit.

End of story.

And when we hail cheerleaders, especially those who have done their work while reppin’ the red and black of Coupeville, you have to include Kylie and Kiara.

Attend any game during their time in uniform, and it was obvious they loved cheer, and the chance to support their classmates.

Any awards they won — and there were more than a few — were well deserved, as the sisters brought a zing and a real sense of style to everything they did as Wolf cheerleaders.

They provided leadership and friendship to those around them, and were ideal role models for the young athletes coming up behind them on the youth cheer teams.

Want to know how high cheerleaders can soar in life, and all they can accomplish? The Burdge sisters are a great place to start.

So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that today we induct them into the Coupeville Sports Hall o’ Fame.

After this, you’ll find Kylie and Kiara hanging out up at the top of the blog, gettin’ loud ‘n proud under the Legends tab.

Exactly where they belong.

Kiara Burdge, seen in her Coupeville cheer days, is now appearing in a national ad. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

All the commercial spots will be ours. Soon. Very soon.

Following in the (large) footsteps of Coupeville alumni Will Butela and Mike Duke, among others, former Wolf cheerleader and track star Kiara Burdge is currently tearing up the internet for Jane.com, a national site offering daily boutique deals.

You can see the entire two minute and 19 second ad, or if you’re just here for the Coupeville connection, pop over right to the 1:18 mark.

That’s where Burdge makes her debut as “Sharon,” with her first dialogue coming at the 1:28 mark.

Kiara Burdge (John Fisken photo)

There’s no stopping Kiara Burdge.

The former Wolf cheer captain, who graduated with the Coupeville High School Class of 2017, is back in the spotlight (where she deserves to be), after dropping a new song.

Two Simple Words” is actually from 2015, and it’s the first song she wrote, but it just made its internet debut thanks to SoundCloud.

Burdge, who has gone on to write and sing quite a bit more, remembers this first effort fondly, as it lit a fire under her creative side.

“This song has a special place in my heart because it was the first time I realized creating music was a possible outlet for me, and that realization changed my life,” she said.

So, take a listen, and catch an ever-soaring star, so you can say you knew Kiara before the rest of the world caught on to how amazing she is.

birthday

Birthday girl Kiara Burdge (center) gets mobbed by her fan club.

The gym is back open for business.

With winter break officially ending, school was back in session Tuesday, and, with that, home basketball games were back on the schedule.

With the Coupeville boys facing off with Port Townsend, players and fans were back at it, and wanderin’ paparazzi John Fisken and his cameras were back in town to document the goings-on.

The photos above are courtesy him.

Kiara Burdge

Kiara Burdge

Kiara Burdge is popular. Very popular.

The Coupeville High School senior, cheer captain, Homecoming Queen and all-around force of nature was the single most searched person on my blog in 2016.

And it wasn’t even close.

When you top Makana Stone and Hunter Smith, combined, people apparently are very, very interested in you.

And why not?

Kiara, who celebrates her birthday today, her final one as a high school student/athlete, has been one of the most impressive young women I have covered in my time pounding the keyboard here at Coupeville Sports.

Like her older sister, Kylie, she was seemingly born to be a cheerleader.

School spirit flows from her, Kiara can seemingly control an overflowing crowd with a single arch of an eyebrow, and she has every attribute you would want to see in a captain.

She leads by example, but she is also quick to reach out to her fellow cheerleaders, offering a quiet word or a smile of encouragement.

Away from the cheer world, Miss Burdge has always been one of the friendliest people in Wolf Nation, a kind, warm young woman who excels in the classroom and the real world.

Kiara comes from a large family — she has three siblings and parents Aaron and Trina — and she seems utterly devoted to each and every one of her relatives.

The Burdges are deeply committed to their Mormon faith, something they all reflect in their daily lives, and part of my respect for Kiara is seeing, from a distance, how she lives in her faith.

Everything I have seen, everything I have heard, over the past four years, reflects well on her, and I say, with a great deal of confidence, that she is truly one of the classiest athletes we have ever had in Coupeville.

She’s a few months away from graduation, so this is the final birthday article I’ll be writing for her.

Before she goes I just want to take a moment to wish her the best, today and every day.

Your future is as bright as it could be, Kiara, and I have no doubt whatsoever you will continue to impress all around you in the years to come.

I hope that you know, on the good days and the bad, that you are blessed, being part of a large, loving family — at home, at school and in your church.

That you have given so much of yourself, to your school, your team and your community, is admirable.

Thank you for being you, from all of us.
