Break’s done, back to work

Time to get back at it.

Coupeville High School sports teams had the week off for spring break, but with the return to classes next week, the Wolves will also return to competition.

With a fury.

Both CHS softball and baseball have four games this coming week, with home clashes against Sultan (Monday) and La Conner (Thursday) and road trips to Darrington (Tuesday) and Forks (Saturday).

Meanwhile Wolf girls’ tennis is slated to travel to South Whidbey Wednesday, while track and field heads to Forks Saturday for a meet.

Coupeville’s wrecking crew is ready to rumble once more.

As everyone gears back up for competition, you might be curious where teams are sitting, win/loss wise.

One eye on weather forecast, one eye on the standings

If Mother Nature plays nice, everyone will be busy bees.

Coupeville High School spring sports teams have full schedules next week, and weather is the only thing which might slow the roll of the Wolves.

If rain stays in the skies, and not falling in large amounts, all four CHS teams have events on the horizon.

Wolf track, which will likely compete, regardless of the weather, is slated to travel to Mount Vernon Thursday, Mar. 28 for a Northwest 2B/1B League meet.

Meanwhile, the Coupeville netters, who need more help from the weather gods, are planning a trip to Seattle Mar. 27 to square off with The Bush School in a non-conference rumble.

Both Wolf diamond squads are hoping to be super busy, as well.

Softball is set to travel to Orcas Mar. 26 and Concrete Mar. 29, before hosting Onalaska Mar. 30 for a doubleheader.

Finally, CHS baseball bounces all over the place, weather permitting.

The JV diamond dogs are in Oak Harbor Mar. 25, while the varsity goes to Orcas the next day, hosts Sequim the day after that, then travels to Concrete Mar. 29 and welcomes South Whidbey to Cow Town Mar. 30.

With one eye on the weather forecast, and one eye on the standings, here’s where things sit, win/loss wise, through Mar. 24.

And yes, though it violates the very nature of baseball, that tie for La Conner baseball, a 13-13 non-conference stalemate with Sedro-Woolley, is real.

Some wins, some losses, much drama

Seven schools, two separate paths.

The 1B schools in the Northwest 2B/1B League have wrapped regular season play, and are currently involved in playoff action, while the 2B institutions are still playing conference rumbles.

Coupeville’s hoops squads close with road games Tuesday at La Conner, before the Braves travel to Friday Harbor Feb. 9.

After that comes the postseason, though only the Wolf boys will advance this season, as the CHS girls fell just short of qualifying for the playoffs.

Teams rise, teams fall, playoffs beckon

Tension mounts.

Another week in the books, and the end of the regular season looms for Northwest 2B/1B League basketball teams.

Coupeville sits with 15 games played, and five more on the schedule, meaning the upcoming week will be a busy one.

The Wolf boys, battling for league supremacy with La Conner and Mount Vernon Christian, welcome Concrete to town Tuesday, then wrap the week with a pair of non-conference tilts.

South Whidbey travels to Cow Town Wednesday for a makeup game, before Brad Sherman’s squad hops on the bus Saturday to go play Chief Leschi in Puyallup.

For the Wolf girls, it’s a two-game week, as Megan Richter’s team hosts Concrete and travels to Chief Leschi.

As we count down the minutes until tipoff, where things sit through Jan. 21:

Week of destiny, week of war

Biggest week of the season, and every game at home.

Coupeville High School basketball teams can control their own destiny this coming week, with La Conner, Mount Vernon Christian, and Neah Bay traveling to Cow Town for hardwood clashes.

The Braves arrive Tuesday, the Hurricanes Friday, and the Red Devils (or at least their varsity teams) Saturday, as the CHS gym will be hoppin’.

The clash with La Conner is huge because it pits Coupeville against its biggest 2B rival in the pursuit of playoff berths.

Mount Vernon Christian, which is 1B now but will be 2B the next four years after new classification numbers go into effect this coming August, currently sits atop the league standings for both girls and boys.

Want a league title? The Wolves need to gnash on the ‘Canes.

The capper to the week against Neah Bay features non-conference action, but pits CHS against two of the best teams in all of 1B and should be big tests for the Wolves.

As we prepare for a week where the local gym should be crammed, night in and night out, a look at where things sit through Jan. 13:
