Mia and Kalia are locked in a battle for the scoring title … and their favorite water bottle.

They’re spreading out the wealth.

We’re only three games into the season and the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad has already gotten goals from five different players.

Junior Mia Littlejohn, who has tallied at least one score in every game, leads the way with six goals.

That means she’s already topped last year’s total of five, and is fast approaching sister Kalia’s single-season school record of 10.

With 12 regular season games left on the schedule, the goal race stands at:

Mia Littlejohn — 6
Kalia Littlejohn — 2
Bree Daigneault — 1
Avalon Renninger — 1
Lindsey Roberts — 1

While you’re pondering that, you can also enjoy the pics above, a collection of ones shot at various games by John Fisken.

May Rose

May Rose is taking over the world.

And the world’s pretty happy about that. As it should be.

The Coupeville High School junior, who celebrates a birthday today, is a winner on and off the field, a young woman whose potential is mind-boggling.

On the soccer pitch, she has taken huge strides every season, rising from a complementary player to a dangerous sniper.

This past fall she blasted home a goal against Chimacum in a 2-1 win that clinched a playoff berth for the Wolves and got the seal of approval from her coach afterwards.

May Rose played lights out; she has really worked hard and improved her game!,” Troy Cowan said. “Her first touch has become a real weapon and she is getting hungry for the ball, which is bad news for defenders!!!”

You notice, he gave her three exclamation points (one more than my typical headline). Nice.

When she’s not rampaging on the pitch, Rose is a soft serve master at Dairy Queen, a proud older sister to fellow booter Taichen Rose and a vital part of The Three Amigos with fellow CHS athletes Bree Daigneault and Ally Roberts.

Oh yeah, and she’s also one of the best in the game on Twitter, where she slices ‘n dices with subtle zingers that leave her foes on the mat, looking like fools.

But don’t let that confuse you.

May might be quick with the wit, but don’t get me wrong. She’s no bully. Far from it.

She has always come across as a friendly, considerate, very intelligent young woman who is supremely loyal to her friends and families, feisty but caring.

Rose is what every coach, every fan loves to see in a student/athlete, and we are very blessed to have her as part of our town.

So, as she celebrates her cake day, we want to send our best to May.

You’re flying high, Miss Rose. Keep soaring. Always.

May Rose

May Rose scored three goals in 2015, helping her nab Most Improved Player honors.

Newcomers made an impact, but a wily veteran took home the night’s biggest prize.

Senior defender Jenn Spark was named Most Valuable Player Sunday night when the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad held its season-ending awards banquet.

Spark, who was the team captain and helped lead the Wolves to a program-best 6-7-3 record this season, was also honored for being a four-year varsity starter.

Junior May “Mad Ninja Skilz” Rose picked up a nickname and an award from Wolf coach Troy Cowan, as she was tabbed as the team’s Most Improved Player.

The night’s other three awards went to first-year players, with junior goaltender Lauren Grove taking home the Coaches Award.

Freshmen Kalia Littlejohn (Rookie of the Year) and Lindsey Roberts (Defensive Player of the Year) rounded out the award winners.

Varsity letters went to 13 players:

Lauren Bayne
Bree Daigneault
Lauren Grove
Kalia Littlejohn
Mia Littlejohn
Mckenzie Meyer
Arisbeth Montiel
Kirsten Pelroy
Sage Renninger
Lindsey Roberts
May Rose
Taichen Rose
Jennifer Spark

Coupeville is still waiting to hear from Olympic League officials on any possible All-League selections. That should come in the next day or two.

Spark

If you thought you heard a crack of thunder, it was just Jenn Spark unleashing a corner kick.

Mia Littlejohn

That one moment when Mia Littlejohn had the ball all to herself. It only lasted 1.3 seconds, then she got swarmed by Vashon again.

Bree Daigneault

Bree Daigneault: “Hey! That’s my soccer ball! Stop trying to steal it, you, you … Pirates!!”

Roberts

Roberts, now thoroughly soaked and kinda, sorta missing the sun, shoots up-field.

May Rose

May Rose (right) and a Vashon player wearing the same number dance a somewhat violent ballet in between the rain drops.

It rained Saturday. A lot.

Not that Wolf soccer fans cared, as, for once, we were high and dry, leaving just the athletes to get soaked.

That’s the difference in watching a game at Oak Harbor High School’s mammoth, covered stadium as opposed to camping out on the exposed, dainty bleachers in Coupeville.

Umbrella in hand, travelin’ photo man John Fisken, who was actually on his home turf this time, snapped away as the Wolves faced off with Vashon Island and the elements.
