The leading scorer in Coupeville High School girls soccer history has made the jump to college ball — in two sports — and is already practicing and fundraising with her new teammates.

Mia Littlejohn, who graduated from Oak Harbor this spring after playing soccer and basketball for three years at CHS, is now attending Santa Monica College.

And she’s putting in four hours of practice some days, two hours in the morning with the booters, then two hours in the afternoon with the hoops squad.

Santa Monica College, which was founded in 1929, is a two-year school which services 30,000+ full-time and part-time students.

Famous alumni include a pair of two-time Oscar winners in Hilary Swank and Sean Penn, as well as boxing champ Laila Ali, Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.

The school fields teams in 16 sports. The Corsairs play in the 16-team Western State Conference, the oldest community college conference in California.

Santa Monica went 15-3-3 in women’s soccer last season, winning the Southern division of the WSC with a flawless 8-0 mark.

The Corsair booters kick off a new campaign Aug. 28 with a road game at Oxnard.

The SMC women’s basketball team was 9-17 last season.

Littlejohn earned multiple All-Conference honors in both of her sports during her three-year run at Coupeville High School, capping things by being named Olympic League MVP in soccer after her junior season.

She rattled home 27 goals that year, which is the most in school history, girl or boy.

Mia’s career mark of 35, scored between 2014-2016, stands as Coupeville’s best for a female booter, though younger sister Kalia, who will be a senior this fall, is hot on her heels with 33.

On the hardwood, the elder Littlejohn tallied 317 points in three seasons for the Wolves, which puts her 34th on the girls career scoring chart.

Littlejohn, a bulldog on the basketball court, was a two-time First-Team All-League pick.

The sisterhood is breaking up.

On the field, that is, not off the field.

Mia Littlejohn, who shattered Coupeville High School’s single-season soccer scoring record last year, is transferring to Garfield for her senior year.

Younger sister Kalia, a high-scoring soccer sensation herself, is remaining a Wolf and will be a junior at CHS this fall.

The older sister torched the nets for 27 goals as a junior, besting Abraham Leyva’s previous standard of 20, and was honored as Co-MVP by Olympic League coaches.

Led by Mia’s fiery attacks on the goal, Coupeville finished 8-7-1 overall, 6-3 in league play. Runner-ups to Klahowya, the Wolves set a program record for wins.

Littlejohn was a two-sport standout for the Wolves, running the point for the girls basketball squad.

A three-year letter winner and two-time First-Team All-League player as a hoops star, Mia never lost a league game during her time on the high school basketball court.

Coupeville’s girls are 27-0 in their three years in the conference, with Littlejohn’s pinpoint passes and swooping drives to the bucket a big part of their success.

While she won’t be playing for the Wolves anymore, Mia plans to stay in tune with how her lil’ sis and former teammates are doing.

“I’ll come visit for games, for sure,” Littlejohn said.

They dominated the league standings, so it’s only appropriate they dominated the postseason honors.

The Coupeville High School girls basketball squad wrapped up a third straight 9-0 season in Olympic League play this year, and conference coaches honored seven different Wolves when they selected All-League teams.

Senior Kailey Kellner and junior Mia Littlejohn repeated as First-Team picks.

Meanwhile seniors Tiffany Briscoe and Lauren Grove, junior Mikayla Elfrank and sophomores Lindsey Roberts and Kalia Littlejohn were all tabbed for Honorable Mention.

The All-League honors were announced Tuesday, as the Wolf girls wrapped a very successful season with an awards banquet.

Coupeville’s varsity went 15-6, the third straight year it has won 15 or more games, while the Wolf JV finished 11-3 overall, 5-0 in league play.

Or 15-3, 9-0 if you award the JV forfeit wins for the four league games they didn’t get a chance to play when Port Townsend and Chimacum bailed on games due to a lack of players.

Kailey Kellner

Wolf senior Kailey Kellner hit 20 straight free throws at one point en route to winning a team shooting competition. (John Fisken photo)

Kailey Kellner has the hottest shooting touch in town.

The Coupeville High School girls’ basketball squad wrapped up its semi-annual free throw shooting competition/fundraiser and the senior gunner took the top spot.

Kellner dropped in 79 of 100, edging junior Mia Littlejohn, who knocked down 70-100, but since she had a hot streak going as free throw #100 tickled the twines, she was allowed to keep shooting.

She promptly knocked down eight more in a row from the charity stripe, running her streak to 20 makes in a row, then bounced one off the rim to finish 87-109.

Kellner inherits the crown from Wynter Thorne, who won the last competition in 2015.

Lauren Rose (67), Kalia Littlejohn (66) and Kyla Briscoe (63) rounded out the top five, with Briscoe (11) and Allison Wenzel (10) joining Kellner in putting together double-digit streaks of consecutive makes.

All total, 20 Wolf girls, varsity and JV, each put up 100 attempts, raising money to aid the CHS hoops program.

Players got family, friends and fans to pledge per made free throw, or make a lump donation.
