The race is on.

With the clock ticking, and just 46 days left until the year’s biggest running event, Race the Reserve, things are at a fever pitch.

The shindig, which features five segments — a marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 10K and 5K — is set for Saturday, Aug. 12.

Whichever event you choose, you’ll be front and center at one of the most beautiful race sites in the biz, as you run through the Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve on Whidbey Island.

To keep your mind off the miles ahead, you’ll be treated to views of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, the Olympics and the Straight of Juan de Fuca as you run.

With the money raised benefiting the Coupeville High School Class of 2018, organizers are plowing through all the preparations and runners (if they’re smart) are in training.

The biggest race of the year just got bigger.

The annual Race the Reserve, which brings tons of runners to Central Whidbey and raises funds for that year’s graduating class at Coupeville High School, is entering new territory.

After previously offering a 5K, 10K and half marathon, the event is taking a huge leap forward and adding a full marathon and a marathon relay in 2017.

While full details are still in the works, Deb Smith, the driving force behind the ’17 race, which is set for Aug. 12, is already positively giddy.

“It’s gonna be incredible!!,” she gushed, before departing to take one of her football-playing sons to the hospital for a concussion check-up.

Registration is already open and you can nab an early bird discount if you get your paperwork out of the way before Dec. 31.

To register, to find out more about Race the Reserve, or to keep an eye on news of the marathon and marathon relay, your place to camp out is:

Coupeville High School’s annual Race the Reserve drew in 275 runners (and one wildly-snapping paparazzi) Saturday, helping raise bucks to fund graduation night festivities for the Class of 2017.

Wolf alum Andre Stone zipped to a win in the 5K, crossing the finish line in 17 minutes, 5.06 seconds, while Singh Navdeep (45:32.5) and Ryan Prachnau (1:19:56.3) took home titles in the 10K and half marathon respectively.

Along for the run, camera in hand, was intrepid clicker John Fisken, who was nice enough to provide us with the photos above.

The biggest race of the year is only four months away.

Preparations for the annual Race the Reserve (which goes off Aug. 13) are underway and event organizers are looking for runners and potential sponsors.

The event, which features a half-marathon, 10K and 5K, benefits the following school year’s senior class at Coupeville High School.

In this case, that would be the Class of 2017, which will get a safe and sober graduation night celebration out of the event.

The races, which are run through Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve on Whidbey Island, offer runners “panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Mt. Rainier and Mt. Baker.”

Cost is $30 (5K), $40 (10K) and $60 (half-marathon) and you can register online this very moment by jumping over to:
