The Coupeville High School track and field team is doing things a little differently this year.

With 26 seniors on the roster and a hole in the schedule, Wolf coaches have scrambled to add a home meet Wednesday, April 19.

The Coupeville Classic Invitational, set to kickoff at 3:00 PM, allows CHS to have a real Senior Night ceremony, which often doesn’t happen in the world of track.

It also keeps the Wolves active, as they were looking at a two-week gap between off-Island meets.

They provide the soundtrack to basketball season.

Coupeville High School cheerleaders and band members play a vital role in keeping things hoppin’ in the gym, and Tuesday night the Wolf support crew took a moment to honor their seniors.

And it was a deep roster of 12th graders, including several foreign exchange students who have brought an international flavor to things this school year.

First, they celebrated. Then they celebrated some more.

Coupeville High School’s boys’ basketball program honored four seniors Tuesday night before their final regular-season home game.

Then those Wolves — Alex Murdy, Jonathan Valenzuela, Jermiah Copeland, and Dominic Coffman — went out and helped their squad drill arch-rival La Conner.

The win clinched a #1 playoff seed for CHS, guaranteeing the seniors will play at least two playoff games at home.

So, a job well done.

“All good things must come to an end. 12 years later and I can’t believe that it’s over now.”

Senior Night eventually comes for every Coupeville High School athlete, even hoops star Carolyn Lhamon.

Part of the Fab Five — a group of Wolves who played together from SWISH through high school — she and her teammates were honored Tuesday night.

Lhamon was joined by Gwen Gustafson, Alita Blouin, Ryanne Knoblich, and Maddie Georges, as well as team managers Anna Myles and Karyme Castro Sotelo.

It’s the second Senior Night for CHS girls’ basketball coach Megan Richter, who started all five seniors against La Conner.

No more home spikes.

The Coupeville High School varsity volleyball squad is off to districts next week, but Tuesday marked the final time its five-pack of seniors suited up for a match in their own gym.

The Wolf veterans were honored before their royal rumble with La Conner, their farewell speeches garnering more than a few tears from their younger teammates.

Having played through the Age of Coronavirus and beyond, Alita Blouin, Ryanne Knoblich, Taygin Jump, Maddie Georges, and Jill Prince exit having left a sizable impact on the CHS program.
