A little home cooking, a little far-flung adventure.

Coupeville High School basketball teams have a split schedule in the week ahead, starting at home and finishing on the road.

The Wolves host Concrete Tuesday, with both varsity teams and the girls’ JV suiting up, while the second boys’ squad has the night off.

Then, come Friday, all four CHS squads hit the road for a trip to Orcas Island.

With the regular season entering the stretch run, wins and losses are at a premium for everyone, but especially for varsity teams fighting for playoff positioning.

Where things sit through Jan. 19:

Northwest League boys’ basketball:

School League Overall
MV Christian 5-0 7-6
La Conner 4-1 7-8
Coupeville 3-2 4-10

Back on the bus.

Coupeville High School basketball teams play exclusively off the island during the coming week, with two trips planned.

The Wolf boys head off to Napavine Monday for a varsity-only rumble, before the varsity girls and JV boys join them Friday for a trek to Darrington.

The Loggers don’t have a JV girls’ team, so Coupeville’s second squad of female hoops stars has the week off from game action.

After that, there are five regular season games left on the schedule — three of those at home — with all four Wolf squads slated to see action.

As we move forward, here’s where things sit for varsity teams through Jan. 12:

Northwest League boys’ basketball:

School League Overall
La Conner 3-0 6-7
MV Christian 3-0 5-6
Coupeville 2-2 3-9
Concrete 1-2 5-7
Darrington 1-2 6-6

A rare quiet moment for CHS basketball managers. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

The buckets are dropping, the win/loss records are starting to roll forward.

High school basketball is back, and gyms have been busy in the early going, with Northwest 2B/1B League teams having racked up nearly 40 games and counting.

Coupeville keeps up the torrid early pace this coming week, with three games on the schedule.

The Wolves take a long bus ride to Forks Monday, then welcome Orcas Island and Morton-White Pass to Whidbey Friday and Saturday, respectively.

That’ll get the CHS squads six games deep into a 20-game regular season schedule.

As things continue to develop, where those win/loss records sit through Dec. 8:

Northwest League boys’ basketball:

School League Overall
Concrete 0-0 1-1
Coupeville 0-0 1-2
Darrington 0-0 0-2
Friday Harbor 0-0 0-3
La Conner 0-0 1-1
MV Christian 0-0 1-2
Orcas Island 0-0 0-2

We’re in the thick of things now.

As we move into week #2 of October, fall sports are going fast and furious, with the intensity ramped up by consistent conference play.

Meanwhile, the Wolf spikers host Friday Harbor on Tuesday, before traveling East for the weekend.

CHS plays Okanogan Friday night at Liberty High School in Spokane, then takes part in a tourney at the same site the next day.
