Wolf grads throwin’ across the USA

East coast to West coast, there’s a former Wolf throwing everywhere.

Coupeville grads Taygin Jump and Logan Martin were both in action at the collegiate level Friday, with the former in New York and the latter in Oregon.

Jump, a freshman at Plattsburgh State, was at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational in Troy, where she finished seventh in the javelin (out of 22 competitors) and 8th in the hammer throw (out of 24 chuckers).

Her throws landed 83 feet, two inches, and 112-06, respectively.

Meanwhile, Martin, a Central Washington University sophomore, was busy at the Larry Byerly Invite in Clackamas, a day after competing in Spokane.

He earned fourth in a 33-man field in the hammer throw Friday, lobbing the implement 174-01.

During their CHS days, both former Wolf aces were multi-sport stars.

Jump played volleyball in addition to her track and field activities, while Martin was on tennis, basketball, and soccer squads before earning three second-place performances at the state track meet his senior season.

Wolf grads sparkle across the USA

Two on the track, one on the water.

Coupeville High School alumni were busy Saturday, competing in college sports events around the country.

How they did:

 

Taygin Jump:

A freshman at Plattsburgh State, she competed at the Pioneer Spring Invite in Utica, scoring points for her team in the hammer throw.

Jump tossed the implement 37.30 meters to claim seventh place, while also lobbing the shot put 8.62 meters.

If there was an extra skip in her step, it’s because the former Wolf was recently honored as one of Plattsburgh’s Cardinals of the Week.

The honor was for Jump’s performance at the Saints Icebreaker meet March 30, where she won both the hammer and javelin.

 

Lucy Sandahl:

The Seattle Pacific University senior was in the varsity 8+ boat as coxswain as the Falcon rowers plied the water at the Pioneer/Pilot Invitational in Vancouver, Washington.

The day’s racing was shortened by weather which caused rough conditions, but SPU was strong in all four of its events.

Sandahl and company competed against Great Northwest Athletic Conference rivals Western Washington and Cal Poly Humboldt.

 

Tate Wyman:

The former Wolf, now a freshman at Oregon Tech, set PRs in both of his events at the Humboldt Invitational in Arcata, California.

Wyman hit the tape in 16.51 seconds in the 110 hurdles, claiming third place, then finished 12th (out of 26 competitors) in the 200 in 23.85.

Taygin Jump had herself a day!

The great outdoors agrees with Taygin Jump.

The Coupeville grad, now a freshman at Plattsburgh State in New York, was finally let loose from the gym Saturday afternoon.

And she promptly tore up the joint.

Making her collegiate outdoor track and field debut, Jump roared to wins in the javelin and hammer throw at the Saints Ice Breaker in Canton.

That gave the fab frosh 20 points on the day, a huge help to Plattsburgh State holding off St. Lawrence 206-194 for the women’s team title.

“First rule — we win. Second rule — same as the first rule.”

Not only did Jump win both of her events, but she won by a large margin.

In the hammer throw, the former Wolf launched her implement an even 112 feet, an inch shy of two feet further than any of her nine foes.

Meanwhile, Jump won by an even bigger margin in the javelin, with her toss of 95-09 being nearly three feet further than any of the other 10 competitors could chuck it.

The Cardinals and their Cow Town killer will bask in the afterglow for a few hours, then get back at it.

Plattsburgh’s next meet arrives April 6, when it travels to Utica for the Pioneer Spring Invite.

Jump keeps the implements flyin’

She’s the queen of the freshmen.

Coupeville grad Taygin Jump finished 14th in the weight throw while competing in a field of veterans Friday at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships in Brockport, New York.

The former Wolf ace, who competes for Plattsburgh State, chucked her implement 41 feet, 3.75 inches, the best throw of any frosh in the competition.

Sophomore Lauren Jaklitsch of SUNY Geneseo won top honors, with three seniors, three juniors, and six sophomores filling out the rest of the top 13 spots.

Jump, who was a standout volleyball and track athlete during her time at CHS, has had a stellar collegiate debut.

Competing in both the shotput and weight throw, she’s racked up five top-five finishes, with a win in the weight throw at a home meet in early February.

Plattsburgh State wraps up the indoor track and field season with an appearance at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championships Mar. 1-2 in Rochester.

After that Jump and the rest of the Cardinals head outdoors for spring action.

Fridays are for fab finishes

It’s a good day to be Taygin Jump.

The Coupeville High School grad delivered another strong performance as a collegiate track and field star Friday in Canton, New York.

Competing at the St. Lawrence Open, Jump, a freshman at Plattsburgh State, claimed a pair of top-five finishes.

She earned third place in the weight throw, launching the implement 39 feet, 9.75 inches, while also collecting fifth in the shot put with a heave of 30-10.50.

Plattsburgh held off the host team 157-137 to claim top team honors at the four-school meet.

Jump and her teammates get back at it Feb. 23-24 at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships in Brockport.

Before landing in the Big Apple, the former Wolf ace was a standout volleyball and track athlete during her days at CHS.

She played both club and school volleyball, and went to the state championships in the hammer throw.
