Back on track.

With its next four matches league affairs, the Coupeville High School boys’ tennis squad primed the well Monday by smacking a non-conference rival silly.

The Wolves rolled to a 4-1 drubbing of 2A North Mason during a rare appearance at home.

The victory lifted Coupeville, which has played five of eight matches against bigger schools, to 2-6.

More importantly, the Wolves are 1-0 in 1A Olympic League play as they attempt to defend their title.

The next step on that path comes Wednesday, when CHS hops the ferry and travels to Chimacum (0-1 in league).

Five of the seven matches remaining on the schedule are against either Chimacum or Klahowya (1-1) and will determine who wears the crown in 2016.

Monday marked an unusual occurrence, as the Wolves passed over the halfway mark of the fall tennis season without having a single match affected by weather.

Call them the Comeback Kids.

The Coupeville High School boys’ tennis squad pulled off a pair of stunning rallies Friday to keep the private school boys on their toes.

While the come-from-behind wins at second and third doubles weren’t quite enough to tip the match in the Wolves favor — host Overlake slipped away with a razor-thin 3-2 win in Redmond — it proved Coupeville won’t go down easy.

Now 0-2 on the young season, after playing a large 2A school and a private school powerhouse, both on the road, the Wolves return home Monday.

Coupeville hosts another 2A school, Sequim (1-1), with play tipping at 3:30.

Friday the Wolves found themselves in a hole early, but came roaring back from a set down in two of their doubles matches to put a positive glow on the afternoon.

Grey Rische and Jimmy Myers stayed on the court the longest, pulling out a hard-fought win in a third-set tiebreaker.

Jimmy and Grey played a closely-contested match,” said CHS coach Ken Stange. “When they started their final tiebreaker, they were the last match on the court.

“Calm Grey and fiery Jimmy. It works fabulously!”

The biggest comeback though might have happened at second doubles, where juniors William Nelson and Joey Lippo dropped the first set 6-2.

After surging back to take the second set by the same score, they seemed at a dead-end, trailing 7-1 in a third-set tiebreaker played to 10.

Instead, the duo found their mojo in a snap, firing off nine straight points to shock the world with a 10-7 triumph.

In a match with just five varsity battles, being swept in the singles slots made life tough for the Wolves.

While he would have liked to have seen a different result on the score cards, Stange was pleased with the effort of his solo warriors.

“It was a good match,” he said. “Our singles guys were over-matched, but Nick (Etzell) played quite well.

“He employed his game plan the whole way through,” Stange added. “He’s getting better every day.”

They rewrote the record books and were rewarded for it.

Coupeville High School booters Abraham Leyva and William Nelson set new program records for goals and assists, respectively, this season, so it was appropriate the duo were tabbed as First-Team All-League players by 1A Olympic League coaches.

Leyva, a senior, notched 20 goals in his final go-around on the CHS pitch, giving him 45 for his career.

He also departs with the school’s career assist record, having compiled 26 over three seasons.

While both of Leyva’s goal records are likely unassailable, Nelson is on his way to taking away the assist mark.

He set a single-season record as a sophomore with 14 set-ups this year.

The duo received their All-League honors at a banquet Thursday night, where Wolf coaches Kyle Nelson and Gary Manker handed out a nice assortment of awards.

Leyva copped Player of the Year honors for the varsity, while Zane Bundy (Most Inspirational), Laurence Boado (Most Improved) and Ethan Spark (Rookie of the Year) also saw time in the spotlight.

Andre Avila was front and center for the JV, capturing Player of the Year and Most Inspirational.

Jaschon Baumann rounded out the awards, taking home Most Improved for the JV squad.

Their final moments played out in beautiful weather.

While the Coupeville High School boys’ soccer players were knocked out of the playoffs in a tight one-goal game Thursday, they at least didn’t endure the non-stop rain the Wolf girls did back in their fall finale.

Both CHS teams hosted their postseason tilts at Oak Harbor High School’s stadium, which makes life easy for travelin’ photo man John Fisken.

He swung by and snapped these pics for us (when he wasn’t taking photos of my moss-encrusted car).

Abraham Leyva (in white) has scored in all six CHS games this season.

Every time Abraham Leyva steps on the soccer pitch, he has a pretty good idea where the net is sitting.

The Coupeville High School senior is the leading scorer in Wolf boys’ soccer history and he’s making a run at breaking his own single-season mark.

Through six games this season, Leyva has tallied eight goals — he hit one in each of the first five games, then went for a hat-trick Monday against Forks.

With eight regular season games left (and then hopefully a decent playoff run), he’s already more than halfway to the 14 goals he scored as a junior.

Toss in 11 as a sophomore and Leyva has scored 33 times in a little under 2.5 seasons in the red and black.

I was going to compare how his total in 2016 matched up with other booters in the state, but had little luck tracking down other numbers.

The Seattle Times and MaxPreps are a jumble right now (the consistency of girls soccer teams reporting their stats in the fall apparently didn’t carry over to the spring).

Best I could find was Nick Iregui of Charles Wright Academy, who is listed with nine goals, and Reyes Garcia of Hazen, who supposedly has eight.

But both of their stats are just as jumbled as everyone else, so who really knows?

My list of CHS varsity goal scorers, however, I can vouch for:

Abraham Leyva — 8
William Nelson –2
Zane Bundy — 1
Sebastian Davis — 1
Ethan Spark — 1
