Enter a world of adventure this weekend.

The Coupeville High School Theater Troupe presents the coming-of-age drama/comedy She Kills Monsters May 11-13, with the curtain going up each night at 7:00 PM.

The school’s Performing Arts Center opens at 6:30, with tickets $10 for adults, $7 for students without ASB, and $5 for students with ASB.

She Kills Monsters, written by Qui Nguyen, made its debut in 2011.

The story tracks Agnes Evans, a young woman who loses her parents and younger sister in a car accident.

Trying to forge a connection with a sister she was distant from in real life, Agnes plays out a Dungeons and Dragons adventure written by her sibling.

Mixing reality and an imaginary game world, the play allows the living sister to discover secrets about her sister and get a deeper understanding of what her life was like while alive.

“We have worked SO HARD on this production,” said theater director Stefanie Ask.

“This play was a big leap for us, with the need to learn stage combat and swordplay, construct caves, build giant monsters out of paper mache … but it’s turning out great.

“The students have worked so hard, and they’ve put together a performance that is hilarious, adventuresome, and deeply, deeply meaningful,” she added. “They deserve your applause.”

Marlen Montiel wants all the goals. All of them! (John Fisken photos)

“Hey, that’s my ball. I’ll just take it back now. Yoink!”

Arndt, serene off the pitch, but ruthless when battling for the ball.

"Outta my way! I got goals to score, fool!!"

“Outta my way! I got goals to score, fool!!”

Arisbeth Montiel’s little sister is a goal-scoring superstar.

That much is very evident when you look at pictures of Marlen Montiel in action from Saturday youth soccer.

Following in the footsteps of her older sister, who has scored twice for the CHS girls’ soccer squad this year (sister Citlalli is also on the Wolf roster), the little Montiel is already claiming the spotlight.

With travelin’ photo man John Fisken out and about, snapping pics wherever a soccer ball might be bouncing, Montiel and other future Wolf booters are getting their moment tonight.

Bask in the awesomeness.

The future of Wolf girls’ soccer is a bright one.

A variety of younger players who may one day put on the red and black for CHS have been busy running wild on the pitch in recent weeks.

The GU12 Whidbey Islanders team, which includes players from North, Central and South Whidbey, captured first place in a 6 vs. 6 tourney in Redmond Saturday.

It was the second straight season the squad had won the title.

That came on the heels of the Seattle Cup, where Whidbey claimed second place.

Three Islanders — Sophie Martin, Jaelyn Crebbin and Eryn Wood, will be attending Coupeville Middle School in the fall.

Martin’s dad, Ken, and Wood’s dad, Rob, are coaching the squad, while Crebbin is the daughter of former longtime CHS volleyball coach Toni Crebbin.

Another future booter is watch is Wynter Arndt, who currently plays for North Whidbey Soccer Club’s GU10 select team.

Paced by three goals and shutdown defense from Arndt, daughter of former Wolf legend Georgie Smith, her squad, which is a brand new team, advanced all the way to the semifinals of a Crossfire tournament.

You thought we didn’t appreciate the finer arts here at Coupeville Sports?

You thought wrong, Skippy.

Proving once again that there are two words in the name of this blog, we’re taking a mini-detour to explore one of the many scholastic offshoots found in the first word — Coupeville.

Today’s contributor to the arts is Coupeville Elementary School poet Wynter Arndt, who, along with her third grade classmates, recently held a poetry cafe for their classmates, parents and literary fans.

Arndt, daughter of renown local lawyer Charles Arndt and former CHS sports sensation turned legendary farmer Georgie Smith, crafted the poems above, which she has been kind enough to let us reprint.

Thank you, Wynter. Write on!
