Big putts, big hearts!!

Tee it up for a good cause.

The Penn Cove Brewing Company is back at it, planning for the 3rd Annual Bennett Boyles Memorial Golf Fundraiser.

The event, which will be held Sept. 29 at the Whidbey Golf Club in Oak Harbor, is named in honor of a Coupeville Middle School basketball star who lost a courageous fight with cancer.

Proceeds from the day are donated to the WhidbeyHealth Foundation and are used to assist Whidbey Island families.

If you sign up before Aug. 19, it’s $100 per player. After that date, registration kicks up to $125.

Your day includes a box lunch, green fees, cart rental, prizes and use of the practice facilities.

Event organizers are also looking for individuals or businesses who would be interested in sponsoring holes.

Let’s get physical, Wolves!!

Want a sports physical, but don’t want to go out of your way to set up an appointment with a doctor?

The Coupeville Booster Club is here to make things easy for you with an event May 22 at the high school gym.

Tentatively called “Night of 1,000 Physicals” (OK, I made that part up…), the event runs from 6-9 PM and is open to all CMS and CHS athletes.

Cost is $45 and proceeds will fund a needs-based college scholarship for a CHS athlete, which will be awarded May 2019.

Cash, debit cards and checks are all accepted.

Eat, drink, help Brisa!!

Brisa Herrera was a battler on the basketball court, and she’s a battler off the hardwood as well.

The Coupeville High School senior is being treated for cancer, and Ciao, the local restaurant she works at, is holding a fundraiser for her tomorrow, Saturday, May 5.

Restaurant owner Mark Laska has pledged the day’s income to benefit “our cherished busser extraordinaire.”

Herrera’s sister and mother also work at Ciao.

The restaurant, located at 701 N. Main, is open from 11 AM-8 PM Saturday’s.

The day’s events, which will feature “Paco’s Tacos,” will also include the band Amigos Nobles playing from 1:30-3:30.

Do it for the kids!!

Won’t someone think about the children?

Central Whidbey Cooperative Preschool, a beloved local institution for more than 40 years, has helped generations of children grow, and its work continues.

CWCP, which is a non-profit, is getting ready for its biggest fundraiser of the year, the “Wine, Bids & Co-op Kids” event Mar. 24.

The event, an evening of appetizers, music and a silent auction, will run from 6-8 PM and is intended for those 21 and older.

The funds raised go to lower the cost of tuition for enrolled families, replenish the CWCP scholarship fund and purchase school supplies.

There are numerous ways for the public to help, from buying tickets (just $10 a pop), bidding on items, and through donations, either monetary or with items which can be auctioned off during the evening.

No item is too big or too small, and could include just about anything — homemade, hand-crafted, a service, gift certificates, gift baskets, etc.

All donations are 100% tax deductible, and individuals and organizations will be acknowledged at the event, on Facebook and through a public message to the families which use CWCP.

Plus, if you donate an item for the auction, you nab two tickets to the event for free.

Rally support for Landen Miller’s family!!

A fundraiser has been started to help Landen Miller’s family.

The 33-year-old Coupeville High School grad, a father of five, died Monday after a rollover car crash on South Ebey Road.

Miller worked in the ER at the WhidbeyHealth Medical Center, and could often be spotted at Central Whidbey Little League games involving his children.

During his time at CHS, he played tennis and baseball for the Wolves before graduating with the Class of 2002.

“Great kid, hard working, always a smile, very quiet demeanor but impactful with his play,” is how former Wolf baseball coach Willie Smith describes Landen.
