It’s a good day to be Taygin Jump.

The Coupeville High School grad delivered another strong performance as a collegiate track and field star Friday in Canton, New York.

Competing at the St. Lawrence Open, Jump, a freshman at Plattsburgh State, claimed a pair of top-five finishes.

She earned third place in the weight throw, launching the implement 39 feet, 9.75 inches, while also collecting fifth in the shot put with a heave of 30-10.50.

Plattsburgh held off the host team 157-137 to claim top team honors at the four-school meet.

Jump and her teammates get back at it Feb. 23-24 at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships in Brockport.

Before landing in the Big Apple, the former Wolf ace was a standout volleyball and track athlete during her days at CHS.

She played both club and school volleyball, and went to the state championships in the hammer throw.

Coupeville’s support crew gets an early weekend.

The final two games of the District 1/2 basketball tournament — neither of which features a Wolf team — have been moved from the CHS gym to La Conner High School.

The change was made “to accommodate Auburn Adventist’s religious requirements, as well as the limitation of the Friday Harbor ferry options,” said tourney director Willie Smith.

With the change in locale, La Conner will provide its people to handle scorebooks, locker rooms, and such.

The games, which are loser-out, winner-to-state affairs Saturday night, feature the Auburn Adventist Academy girls “hosting” Friday Harbor at 6:00 PM, followed by the La Conner boys hosting AAA at 7:45.

The Coupeville boys and La Conner girls, having won Bi-District title games earlier in the week, have already clinched their tickets to the state tourney.

She’s kicking off 2024 with a bang.

Coupeville High School standout Gabriella Gebhard is posting some of the best stats of her already-stellar dog show career.

She’s currently #1 in the entire country in her age group for English Setters, while sitting #2 in Sporting Junior and All-Breed Junior dog handlers.

Gebhard is also celebrating the official arrival of her invitation to return to the Westminster Dog Show.

The top event in the United States, it goes down May 13-14 in New York.

It’s official.

For now, Gebhard and her prime pooch, Walker (Set’r Ridge’s Legend in the Making), continue to rack up awards and work the circuit.

“So, so proud of what me and Walker have accomplished with only being out at two shows this year so far!” she said.

“Love my best boy!”

Next up for the duo is an appearance at a show in Albany the last weekend in February.

Fresh blood is the answer.

Whether we’re talking about vampire movies (we’re not) or the Coupeville Booster Club (we are), every so often you need an infusion.

In the case of the boosters, getting parents or grandparents to join up, especially when their athletes are still young, is vastly important.

That way, when current leaders, and their offspring, “age out,” there’s already a solid group of people in place ready to keep things humming along.

And the booster club’s work is super important, providing crucial financial assistance to Wolf sports programs.

Making life easier for Coupeville administrators, and benefitting the school’s student/athletes, the support crew is invaluable.

Want to join and be a worker bee or a leader? Now is the time.

The booster club holds its next general meeting this coming Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6:00 PM in the health room, which is on your left as you enter the CHS gym.

The tentative agenda includes the treasurer’s report, reviews of any coach requests, getting organized for the upcoming Mussel Fest, membership status, and various spring functions such as the scholarship committee and annual athletic appreciation event.

Recruitment of new members and officers is a huge priority, as well.

So, either show up in person, or contact the club at coupevillebc@gmail.com if you have questions.

“Get in my belly!!!”

“Simmer down, ya animals! Five minutes more! Willie Smith, you even breathe on that oven you get none, mister.”

“Oh. Hi, Mrs. Downes. Gee Mrs. Downes, your hair looks real pretty today.”

“Ooh, you keep an eye on him, Mrs. Downes! He’s a sneaky one!!”

“Baby death grip activated. This dude’s going nowhere! No need to thank me, you can pay me in sweet, sweet pizza rolls!”

“You touch that oven, and we’re comin’ for you, old man!”

“You even think about touching my pizza rolls, you’re sleeping on the couch, buddy!”

Oven dings. “LET’S GET ‘EM, BOYS!!!!”
