One photo, two Coupeville legends, as Toni Crebbin (left) and Makana Stone hang out.

Lethal even in limited time.

A banged-up knee restricted Coupeville grad Makana Stone to just 16 minutes Sunday in Norway, but she still slapped home 11 points, snagged five boards, and pilfered three steals before departing.

Missing their top player, Ammerud struggled in the third quarter, eventually falling 60-47 to Baerum.

The loss drops the Queens to 3-10 on the season.

Ammerud was up early Sunday, leading 14-11 after one quarter of play, and still hanging tough down just 24-23 at the half.

But the third frame was deadly for the Queens, as Baerum took advantage of the situation and ripped off a game-clinching 21-10 run.

There’s a 10-day gap between games for Ammerud, which doesn’t return to play until Jan. 24 against league leader Ullern (10-1).

That will give Stone time to have her knee assessed, rest up, and be rarin’ to go once medically cleared.

The former Wolf ace has been at the heart of everything the Queens do this season, racking up 268 points, 140 rebounds, 38 assists, 40 steals, and eight blocked shots.

God’s Chosen Sport is thriving in Cow Town.

The Coupeville Youth Basketball Association kicked off a new season this week, with more than 160 future stars vying for dominance in the paint.

The organization benefits greatly from its vast array of volunteer coaches, plus having high school hoops aces serve as refs and scorekeepers.

Plus, toss in the 21 sponsors who stepped up financially, and things are soaring.

The focus, as always, is on the children out on the floor, as they develop their skill set and prepare for success, now and in the future.

“They came out and made us all proud with their effort, passion, and awesome attitudes today!” said CYBA’s Facebook page.

“Looking forward to a great season!”

He’s danger from deep.

Coupeville grad Caleb Meyer came off the bench Saturday in Mount Vernon and made good on his opportunities.

The former Wolf ace got two shots in a 119-89 win over visiting Olympic College, and he drained them both, rattling the rim twice on three-ball attempts.

His six points helped the Cardinals keep alive their winning streak, as they ran their record to a flawless 17-0.

SVC will carry its #1 ranking back into battle Jan. 17 when it clashes with Everett College.

Meyer, currently in his sophomore season at Skagit, has racked up 16 points, four rebounds, five assists, and four steals during the campaign.

After attending Coupeville schools through 8th grade, he took a detour off-Island before returning to Cow Town for his senior year.

Rejoining the teammates he grew up with, Meyer was a huge factor in the Wolf boys’ basketball team going 16-0, winning league and district titles, and returning to the state tourney for the first time in three decades.

Once spring rolled around, he was a track and field powerhouse, capping his run by being part of the second-fastest 4 x 100 relay team among 2B schools.

Biggest week of the season, and every game at home.

Coupeville High School basketball teams can control their own destiny this coming week, with La Conner, Mount Vernon Christian, and Neah Bay traveling to Cow Town for hardwood clashes.

The Braves arrive Tuesday, the Hurricanes Friday, and the Red Devils (or at least their varsity teams) Saturday, as the CHS gym will be hoppin’.

The clash with La Conner is huge because it pits Coupeville against its biggest 2B rival in the pursuit of playoff berths.

Mount Vernon Christian, which is 1B now but will be 2B the next four years after new classification numbers go into effect this coming August, currently sits atop the league standings for both girls and boys.

Want a league title? The Wolves need to gnash on the ‘Canes.

The capper to the week against Neah Bay features non-conference action, but pits CHS against two of the best teams in all of 1B and should be big tests for the Wolves.

As we prepare for a week where the local gym should be crammed, night in and night out, a look at where things sit through Jan. 13:

Teens snapping teens.

The photographers this time around are similar in age to the athletes performing in front of their cameras, with members of the Coupeville High School yearbook staff providing the pics seen above and below.

Taught the dark arts of the photography world by teacher Jackie Saia, emerging paparazzi such as Bailey Thule and Parker Hammons continue to impress.

They have a nice eye for going deep to capture the story beneath the surface, and we appreciate them letting us publish their work before the whole world catches on and celebrates their camera skills.
