Three is the magic number.

A trio of Coupeville High School basketball players were honored Tuesday, when Northwest 2B/1B League coaches picked All-League teams.

Chase Anderson, who finished his prep career as the #7 scorer in CHS boys’ hoops history, was tabbed as a First-Team selection, while fellow senior Camden Glover earned Honorable Mention status.

On the girl’s side of the ball, junior Haylee Armstrong, who led the Wolves in scoring, was a Second-Team All-Conference pick.

Coupeville’s Davin Houston slices ‘n dices the Mount Vernon Christian defense. (Jackie Saia photo)

The Hurricanes washed out Wednesday.

Both of the Mount Vernon Christian girls’ and boys’ basketball teams fell in loser-out games at the 2B state tourney in Spokane, eliminating the last chance for the Northwest 2B/1B League to win any hoops hardware this season.

The MVC girls, seeded #8, were toppled 52-34 by #9 Davenport, and went 0-2 at the big dance after previously losing 62-34 to top-seeded Napavine.

In a game which finished a bit later in the afternoon, the Hurricane boys, seeded #11, were bounced 60-51 by #3 Okanogan. They previously beat #14 Kittitas 66-47 in their state opener last week.

The other three NWL teams to advance to state — the La Conner, Orcas Island, and Concrete girls — all went one and done.

In 1B, Concrete got whacked 64-37 by Taholah, while in 2B La Conner fell 50-40 to Raymond-South Bend and Orcas Island was swatted 66-42 by Lake Roosevelt.

The Hurricanes are our only hope.

Five Northwest 2B/1B League basketball teams advanced to the state tourney, but four lost their openers this weekend, with three eliminated.

Girls’ squads from La Conner, Orcas Island, and Concrete all went one and done, leaving just the Mount Vernon Christian girls and boys alive and able to advance to Spokane.

Those MVC girls, seeded #8 in 2B, actually lost their state opener, falling 62-34 to top-ranked Napavine, but were guaranteed at least two games by being a top-8 team.

The Hurricanes will square up with #9 Davenport Mar. 4 in a loser-out game at Numerica Veterans Arena in Spokane.

The only NWL win this weekend came courtesy the #11 MVC boys, who upended #14 Kittitas 66-47 to advance to a loser-out game in Spokane Mar. 4 against #3 Okanogan.

For the other three teams from Coupeville’s conference, it was a short run at state.

In 1B, Concrete got whacked 64-37 by Taholah, while in 2B La Conner fell 50-40 to Raymond-South Bend and Orcas Island was washed away 66-42 by Lake Roosevelt.
