We are family.

Like the Pittsburgh Pirates back in the ’70s, when they won a World Series while rockin’ out to the sounds of Sister Sledge, the Coupeville High School volleyball program is preaching togetherness.

The pics above and below come from the Wolves recent Unity Camp, a mix of sets, spikes, and team bonding experiences.

A youth cheer camp originally planned for February 1 has been cancelled.

The plan was for Coupeville High School cheerleaders and coaches to teach students in grades K-8, with money raised going to help fund the Wolves trip to nationals.

For a fundraiser to be run through the school, and operated on school grounds, requires school board approval, however, something which was not in place.

With approval, which could have come at the January 27 school board meeting, any money raised by the camp would have still needed to go through the school’s ASB fund, and not been available for use prior to the trip to nationals.

The CHS cheerleaders are continuing various fundraisers on their own, and plan to replace the cheer camp with a community dinner or similar event.

UPDATE — CAMP HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

You can kick off a new month with a big cheer.

The Coupeville High School cheerleaders are holding a youth cheer camp Saturday, February 1 for children in grades K-8.

The event runs from 12-3 PM in the CHS gym and costs $30, which includes a t-shirt, snack, and water for all participants.

Parents need to register their child online by Jan. 29 to ensure a t-shirt.

At the conclusion of the camp, participants will hold a parent showcase to show off what they’ve learned during the day, which will include a cheer, dance, and stunts.

All children should show up wearing “workout” attire.

For any questions, contact CHS cheer coach BreAnna Boon at Chscheer@outlook.com

And the weeds whisper, “Run, Forrest, run.”

“After I run, I like to eat a sandwich this big!”

Summer is cruising to a close, and fall sports are fast approaching.

Combining the best of both seasons, Coupeville High School cross country runners headed off Sunday to running camp.

The event, held just down the road at Camp Casey, features an appearance by running legend Doris Brown Heritage, who has been inducted three times into a national Hall of Fame.

She won the International Cross Country Championships five years running (1967-1971) and competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.

CHS is restarting its cross country program after a two-decade absence, and the camp gives coach Natasha Bamberger and her runners a chance to work alongside long-established programs.
