The road trip was worth it.

Playing as the home team in someone else’s stadium Saturday, the Oak Harbor Football and Cheer League Seniors gridiron squad claimed a title, beating Arlington 28-20.

The victory caps a perfect 10-0 season for the Wildcats.

With no youth football program offered in Coupeville, three Wolves wore the purple and gold this season.

Max MyersDiesel Eck, and Kamden Ratcliff attend school at Coupeville Middle School, and will bring a championship mindset with them when they join the CHS football program.

Whidbey rules the night.

New season, same old domination on the wrestling mat.

Former Coupeville supernova Izzy LeVine whipped up on everyone in sight Saturday at the Arizona Women’s Cup, winning all five of her matches en route to a title.

Competing at Poston Butte High School in San Tan Valley, the Casteel junior helped spark her squad to a 3rd place finish in the team standings.

The Colts finished ahead of 29 other teams despite having just six grapplers on site, thanks to LeVine and three of her teammates medaling.

While much of her wrestling success has come after a family move to Arizona, the youngest of Sean and Joline’s three daughters already showed signs of growing into a superstar while the family lived on Whidbey.

Her dad and older sisters Micky and Jae are all Coupeville Sports Hall o’ Fame inductees.

The Arizona Women’s Cup officially kicked off the high school season, though Izzy has been hard at work almost year-round, as she terrorizes foes on the mat both in her Casteel uniform and as a free-lancer.

Coupeville’s Dominic Coffman (center) celebrates winning a championship in Spain.

One year in, one title to his credit.

Coupeville grad Dominic Coffman was part of a championship-winning football team during his debut campaign overseas, as the Las Bravos Black Demons won the Spanish Cup Saturday.

The former Wolf, a three-sport star back in his CHS days, contributed on both sides of the ball, playing running back and linebacker.

The pics above and below, which come to us courtesy Dominic, capture the aftermath of the title game win.

Big hitters Lyla (left) and Tenley Stuurmans, always killin’ it on the volleyball court. (Photo courtesy Scott Stuurmans)

Sister, my sister, let the spikes fly.

Coupeville siblings Lyla and Tenley Stuurmans continue to shine on the volleyball court, whether wearing school or club uniforms.

The dynamic duo and their SIVA Blue South team, which plays out of Burlington, swept to a championship win at last weekend’s Tulip Festival Tournament in Skagit Valley.

The Stuurmans sisters, and their associates, won two matches Saturday, Apr. 1, and four more the following day to claim first-place in the U16 Gold division.

Club volleyball runs for two more months, with Lyla and Tenley scheduled to play in several more tourneys.

They’ll wrap the season with an appearance at the Emerald City Classic at the University of Washington May 27-29.

SIVA Blue South features a strong group of coach’s daughters, with the offspring of La Conner’s Pam Keller and Sedro-Woolley’s Shawna Tesarik joining the Stuurmans sisters, whose mom, Sarah, has had great success coaching Coupeville and Oak Harbor teams in multiple sports.

Playing club volleyball, especially off of Whidbey Island, has made the siblings step out of their comfort zone and learn to adapt to new responsibilities and positions.

Tenley, who is just 12, is “playing up” with most of her teammates being several years older, while Lyla has been a plug-and-play whirlwind, stepping in to take the place of missing teammates, often with little prior notice.

All while juggling multiple sports, as school track and field runs parallel with club volleyball.

Lyla, a sophomore at Coupeville High School, is currently the fastest 400 female runner in the 2B classification, while Tenley, a 7th grader, is expected to be one of the frontrunners for the middle school squad.

Lauren Marrs basks in victory, sweet victory. (Emili Marrs photos)

Younger sister Taylor (right) is also a pitch powerhouse.

She’s not a Wolf anymore, but she’s still a winner.

Lauren Marrs, who used to light up the basketball hardwood and soccer pitch in Coupeville, will be a sophomore at Oak Harbor High School this fall.

The talented student/athlete, among the brightest of young stars no matter the color of the uniform, kicked off August with a bang.

Playing at the Washington Rush Cup in Burlington, Marrs manned the goal on a title-winning soccer team, helping her squad go undefeated.

And she wasn’t alone, as younger sister Taylor also played in the tournament as well — for a different team — and scored a goal after being bumped from defense to the front.

The Marrs family, which includes older sister Jaden, a former CHS cheerleader, and parents Brian and Emili, is living the 24/7/365 soccer life.

This weekend’s tourney was the fifth of seven this summer, and the only one in which both Lauren and Taylor both make an appearance.
