Stop them? Not likely!

The freight train rolls on, smashing everything in its way.

With nine different players scoring Friday night, the Coupeville High School JV boys’ basketball squad crunched visiting Friday Harbor, collecting its sixth-straight win.

Nabbing a 76-36 victory, the red hot ‘n rolling Wolves get to 6-0 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 13-2 overall.

All that stands between Coupeville and a mythical JV league title is a win next Tuesday, Feb. 6 at La Conner in the season finale.

Seeing how they beat those Braves 61-22 the first time around, odds are in the favor of the Wolves.

Jack Porter heads to the bench, giving the other team a brief break from trying, and failing, to stop him from scoring.

The rematch with Friday Harbor, a team it beat by 14 earlier this season, was much more of a blowout.

Riding a torrid first quarter performance from big man Camden Glover, who poured in 13 of his 19 points in the opening eight minutes, CHS charged out to a 27-7 lead at the break.

While Friday Harbor played its best ball in the second frame, outscoring the Wolves 14-13, the second half was right back to the Wolves dominating on their home floor.

Jack Porter and Aiden O’Neill each knocked down seven points in the third to spur a 24-11 run, before Coupeville coasted in with a 12-4 performance in the final quarter.

Glover and Jack Porter shared team scoring honors, each draining 19 points, while Malachi Somes and O’Neill backed them up with seven apiece.

Landon Roberts (6), Johnny Porter (6), Davin Houston (5), Riley Lawless (4), and Sage Arends (3) also scored, with Jayden McManus contributing on defense.

Burn the nets, rack up a win

Sweet, sweet payback.

Avenging a narrow early-season loss, the Coupeville High School JV girls’ basketball squad caught fire Friday night, thrashing visiting Friday Harbor.

The first time the teams met, back in mid-December, the Wolverines came out on top 36-32.

This time around, it was all Wolves, all night long, as Kassie O’Neil’s pack rolled to a convincing 52-27 win.

The victory lifts CHS to 2-3 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 5-6 overall, with two games left on the schedule.

The Wolves host Orting Saturday in a non-league rumble, then travel to La Conner next Tuesday, Feb. 6 for the season finale.

Friday night Coupeville blew out to a 16-8 lead at the first break, and never relented.

A 14-2 run in the second frame pushed the margin out to 30-10 at halftime, before the Wolves stretched the advantage to 46-21 through three quarters.

Coupeville spread its offense out, with Tenley Stuurmans leading the way with a game-high 18 points.

The Wolf 8th grader, along with several of her teammates, is pulling double duty right now.

They’re wrapping up their debut high school season while also practicing for the start of middle school hoops, which opens play Feb. 8 at home against South Whidbey.

Bryley Gilbert, who slapped home most of her points in the first half Friday, finished with 14 to back up Stuurmans, while Adie Maynes and Haylee Armstrong rippled the net for eight apiece.

Capri Anter and Ava Lucero banked in a bucket each to round out the scoring, while Taylor Marrs, Chelsi Stevens, Lexis Drake, and Ari Cunningham also saw floor time for the Wolves.

She’s a destroyer of worlds!

Call her “The Chiropractor,” cause Teagan Calkins is rearranging spines out here.

The Coupeville High School sophomore seems like a gentle soul in the real world, but put her in the heat of athletic battle, and she becomes a wild beast.

And we’re lovin’ it, as these reactions (clearly not taken out of context) demonstrate.

Buckets rain down, scorekeepers stay busy

As the latter stages of the season unfold, the numbers continue to tick upwards.

Coupeville High School basketball players have combined to score 2,679 points this season, with 10 different Wolves notching 100 or more.

Even after going scoreless for the first time this season, due to a first quarter injury, senior Logan Downes is WAY out in front of everyone in the scoring race.

The battle for #2, however, is much closer, with JV player Camden Glover 17 points up on varsity star Chase Anderson.

In the week ahead, the Wolf boys play once, hosting Friday Harbor Feb. 2, while the CHS girls take the court on back-to-back days, with Orting visiting Cow Town Feb. 3.

Playoffs loom, but business to finish

The end is near.

Of the regular season, that is.

There are only 13 games left on the schedule for Northwest 2B/1B League basketball teams, then it’s time for postseason action.

The conference’s 1B schools wrap regular-season play this coming week, while the 2B franchises — Coupeville, Friday Harbor, and La Conner — have two weeks left before the playoffs.

The games ahead will decide where, when, and if the Wolf hoops stars advance, though it’s all but a slam dunk for the CHS boys.

The Coupeville girls are still scrapping, and their home game with Friday Harbor this coming Friday, Feb. 2 will have a lot to say about the matter.

Win or lose, Megan Richter’s squad returns to its home court the following day, hosting Orting in a non-conference tilt.

After that, both CHS teams put a bow on the regular season with a road trip to La Conner Feb. 6.

As we hurtle towards the end line of one thing and the start line of something else, a look at where things sit through Jan. 28:
