Mission accomplished.

Coupeville High School Class of 2023 students stepped lightly across damp grass Saturday at Mickey Clark Field to accept their diplomas.

New worlds and new challenges await in the future.

But, for a moment, it’s all smiles as they hold the reward for finishing a 13-year trek.

Help Coupeville’s Booster Club plant the flag in support of Wolf athletics. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

Want to support Wolf athletics in the future?

Then it’s time to get in on the ground floor today.

The Coupeville Booster Club is holding its “year-end” meeting this coming Thursday, June 15, an event which will include electing board officers for the 2023-2024 school year.

Things go down starting at 6:00 PM in the health room inside the entrance to the Coupeville High School gym, and all are welcome.

The club is particularly interested in bringing in parents of high school and middle school athletes, helping build a solid bench of backers.

That way, as one group invariably exits as their offspring depart CHS playing fields, the next will already be in place and rarin’ to go. And on and on.

Thursday’s meeting is ideal for both those already entrenched in the booster club world, and first-timers alike.

President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary are all in play, with board officers serving for a term of one year, and not more than three years.

If you’d like to throw your name into the race, contact the booster club at coupevillebc@gmail.com before the meeting.

All current members in good standing have voting privileges for the election of officers.

In addition to elections, the year-end meeting will help the booster club prep for next school year, setting goals, forming committees, and pre-planning for functions.

The booster club has been invaluable in recent years, providing financial support in areas where the school athletic budget doesn’t.

From purchasing new equipment, to supplying athletic letters, to making sure athletes have snacks on road trips, to maintaining the Wall of Fame in the gym, the club is the motor which drives Wolf Nation.

On to graduation. But first, a victory lap. (Morgan White photos)

Hit the gas and head to graduation.

Coupeville High School seniors hopped in an assortment of vehicles Friday and did a tour through downtown.

Now it’s on to the big show itself — graduation for the Class of 2023 — which goes down Saturday starting at 1:00 PM at Mickey Clark Field.

They walked this way. Then back that way.

A day before graduation, Coupeville High School seniors strolled down a familiar path.

The Wolves exited CHS Friday morning and strolled down the street to the elementary school many of them attended, where they were greeted by lil’ kids following in their path.

Then it was back to the high school, for a moment at least, where the senior car parade awaited.

One more box checked on the way to becoming alumni.

Karyme Castro Sotelo was tabbed by the Lions Club as a Student of the Year. (Photo courtesy Maricela Sotelo)

It’s a mad swirl of awards and scholarships being handed out in the days leading up to graduation.

The busiest time of the school year creates a madhouse atmosphere for teachers, admins, and front office personnel as everyone tries to stick the landing.

Coupeville High School held its awards night this past Monday, and, while I wrote about the athletic honors that night — this is an athletics-based blog, after all — here’s some more of what was handed out.

Ryanne Knoblich, who was the school’s Female Athlete of the Year, also brought home the Senior Service Award.

To be considered, a Wolf needs to make the top 10 in a vote by their fellow students, then win a faculty vote.

Criteria for the award includes “good citizenship, exemplary sportsmanship, being helpful to others, unselfishness, (while being) eager to assist faculty, administration, and the betterment of the entire school.”

Fellow seniors Mercedes Kalwies-Anderson and Milo Socha earned the Legacy Award, handed to students who “leave a positive legacy, and are a role model.”

Meanwhile, the Coupeville Lions Club, which honors two Wolves each quarter during the school year, tapped Karyme Castro Sotelo and Josh Guay as their Students of the Year.

Castro Sotelo played tennis and was a cheerleader as a senior, while Guay capped a four-year run as a Wolf track and field athlete.

Plus, he let me use some of his photos here on Coupeville Sports, so, extra credit.
