It’s getting brutal out there.

But that’s a good thing, when it’s your town’s team that’s inflicting the beat-downs.

Proving the pipeline is sending a flood of talented players in the direction of Coupeville High School, the young Wolves are busy feasting on foes every time they step foot on the hard-court.

Coupeville’s 7th/8th grade SWISH girls’ basketball squad rolled to 7-0 on the season with another pair of lopsided wins Saturday afternoon.

After opening with a 19-9 thumping of Burlington, the Wolves shredded Mount Vernon Christian 31-17.

Chelsea Prescott had the hot hand in the opener, popping for nine, while Izzy Wells scorched the nets for a game-high 14 in the nightcap.

Wells led the Wolves with 16 points over the two games, while Prescott (14) and Anya Leavell (12) both broke double digits as well.

Abby Mulholland, Ja’Kenya Hoskins, Samantha Streitler and Kiara Contreras all chipped in with a bucket apiece.

While they didn’t score, the trio of Kylie Van Velkinburgh, Audrianna Shaw and Adair Dejesus-Ramirez also saw valuable playing time.

Eight days away.

As practice continues to play out, the Coupeville Middle School boys’ hoops squads are getting closer to their first action against someone not wearing the same uniform.

Opening afternoon is Thursday, Dec. 1, when Sequim comes to Whidbey (3:15 tip-off).

In preparation for the 10-game season, the young Wolves got their first taste of the photographic life recently when John Fisken wandered by the gym.

Girls basketball is booming in Cow Town.

At every level, high school to elementary school, Coupeville hoops stars are laying down beat-downs.

Over the weekend, both of the Wolf girls SWISH teams handily won games, with the 6th graders pounding Mt. Vernon and the 7th/8th graders decimating a pair of Canadian squads.

Wanderin’ camera man John Fisken swung by the off-Island games and nabbed us the snappy pics seen above.

The pipeline is in great shape.

The young players who will one day form the core of the Coupeville High School girls’ basketball program continue to dominate at the SWISH level.

Rampaging to a pair of wins Saturday, the Wolf 7th/8th grade squad sent a pair of Canadian teams packing, running their season mark to a pristine 5-0 in league play.

“We have bought in and the girls continue to grow and get better,” said Coupeville coach Dustin Van Velkinburgh.

The Wolves pasted a 7th grade team from South Langley, British Columbia 40-10, then held off the same town’s 8th grade team 18-11.

Seven of Coupeville’s players scored, with Chelsea Prescott pouring in 17 across the two games to lead the way.

Anya Leavell added 14, while Izzy Wells (8), Kiara Contreras (7), Sam Streitler (4), Abby Mulholland (4) and Ja’Kenya Hoskins (4) all etched their names in the record-book.

Kylie Van Velkinburgh, Lily Leedy and Audrianna Shaw also saw floor time for the high-flying Wolves.
