An Air Force Globemaster III plane flies over Coupeville Friday. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Onward and upward.

A pair of Growlers from NAS Whidbey were out in front of the cargo planes.

You can feel the Earth rumble just by looking at the photo.

The skies above Coupeville were filled with an extra-loud roar Friday.

Two United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft from the 62nd Airlift Wing at Joint Base Lewis-McChord joined the usual EA-18 Growlers in our airspace.

The bigger planes rumbled over the WhidbeyHealth Medical Center in a pre-planned salute to health care workers who continue to stand tall during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jacquie Vincent sends her ball towards the hole.

One shot to win the Masters, and save the world. Or at least liven up the day.

John Fisken has been let out of the house.

The intrepid photographer is back to his wandering ways, and Thursday his travels took him to the Whidbey Golf Club in Oak Harbor.

While there he captured some pics of duffers taking advantage of sunny weather, and slightly-relaxed pandemic restrictions.

For the first time in 56 years, downtown Coupeville will not be overrun by artsy types this summer.

Central Whidbey’s biggest shindig has been taken off the calendar, with the 2020 edition of the Coupeville Arts and Crafts Festival being cancelled.

This year’s event was scheduled to run August 8-9, but the festival was called off as the world battles the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Board of Directors for the festival issued a statement Wednesday.

“Believing that the Arts and Crafts Festival should be a time of celebration, not anxiety, the board did not enter into this decision lightly,” they said.

“Public health and safety has been and always will be a top priority. In addition to our guests, there is a responsibility to provide a safe experience for volunteers, vendors and the community.

“The 2021 Coupeville Arts and Crafts Festival will be held on August 7 and 8, 2021. Please join us at that time and until then, be safe.”

Race the Reserve is moving from summer to fall.

The running event, which operates as a fundraiser for the next graduating class at Coupeville High School, has been bumped from August 8 to October 11.

The decision, which was announced Friday, came after Washington state Governor Jay Inslee issued new directives in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under those orders, there are four phases for how the state will be reopened.

Gatherings of 50+ people and large sporting events, both of which describe Race the Reserve, are part of the final phase.

When it is held, the event offers runners a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, and marathon relay.

Proceeds will go to fund a safe and sober graduation night celebration for the CHS Class of 2021.

Race organizers understand the date change may not work for some, and that there may still be concern about participating in group activities, even at a later date.

They are offering additional options to those who have registered, if they choose not to participate in the live event.

Runners can transfer to a virtual event, and will still receive a medal and shirt, as well as a refund covering the financial difference between the live and virtual races.

Information on the virtual event is being worked on, and will be updated soon.

If runners choose not to participate in either event, their entry fees will be fully refunded.

Race organizers are also working on new guidelines for the start/finish line and aid stations to ensure further safety precautions are in place.
