Poor Canada. All that money and I still have a bigger photo crew than you.

While the Canuck-funded “local” newspapers do without a full-time photographer (hey, that’s money that can be spent on corporate vacations, eh?), I have an army at my beck and call.

Sort of.

None of them really respond to the whole beck and call thing very well. But they do take nice photos.

The photos above come courtesy of three different pic wizards — John Fisken, Eileen Stone and Wolf hoops star Maddie Big Time, aka Madeline Strasburg.

He will not be forgotten.

Taken away from friends and family after a tragic murder in Oak Harbor, former Coupeville High School football player Adam Garcia will live on in their memories and through his beautiful young daughter.

The thoughts of some that knew him, in their own words:

==========

Rhiannon Ellsworth:

Adam was always good at football; that’s how I officially met him, I was on his football team.

He never really liked the fact that there was girls on the team but he was still nice and helped me when I needed it.

He didn’t have to know you or even like you very much, he’d still want you to have a good time.

He was rare; he could hang with the meanest crowd, but still have time to be good to people.

Adam welcomed me into his home and to his life at one point back then; I would have never thought a loving and good man like him would go so young.

He will be forever missed by family and friends, but we will all meet again … just not yet.

==========

Danny Savalza:

Adam was a great friend, teammate, young man and father.

On the gridiron we were both running backs. He worked hard and ran harder.

Off the field he always had your back, no matter what the circumstance or situation.

Always would greet me with a smile and a handshake.

Rest In Paradise Adam Garcia, you will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

==========

Tony Maggio:

Your coaches are heartbroken Adam Garcia.

Seems like yesterday we were talking about your baby, and how hard it was being a teenage father, but you were overcoming.

I will miss his smile.

Pray for his mother, and that whoever murdered him is caught.

RIP 33.

==========

Korbin Korzan:

That was a great year. Had so much fun playing along side this big guy.

Rest easy Adam, love you bro.

==========

Bobbie Massengale:

I give my deepest condolences to the family.

I remember his smile and kindness to others when I had the opportunity to watch him when I was the lunch lady up at the cafeteria.

I also remember the games I have watched; my daughter happened to be one of his teammates.

He was a good kid and I will always remember this sweet young lad.

==========

Aaron Nell:

Going to miss you brother.

==========

Charlie Toth:

Rest peacefully. You have obviously left a positive mark on the world in your much-too-short life.

"Oh, it's true, it's true. I'm huge in Sweden."

“Oh, it’s true, it’s true. I’m huge in Sweden.”

Nearly 300 runners lined up for Saturday’s Race the Reserve. One was brave enough to come off the line at the crack of dawn without a shirt.

More beast than man, a mythic figure whose exploits still waft across the fog-enshrouded Island of his birth, Danny Savalza can not be tamed.

He must run free. It is his nature.

He does not live in our world, we live in his.

Accept it and become one with your inner Savalza. It is your only salvation.

Danny Savalza was back in town Saturday. If you didn’t see him, it’s probably because he was moving too fast.

The former Coupeville High School Athlete of the Year finished 15th in the half marathon at the 2014 edition of Race the Reserve, with his entry fee going to help fund graduation events for the guys and gals following in his footsteps at CHS.

The popular event, which drew nearly 300 entries this year for the half marathon, 10K and 5K, benefits the CHS Class of 2015.

Kurt Warwick of Clinton took the title in the half marathon, clocking in at one hour, 15 minutes and 24.4 seconds.

Joining him on the victory stand were Brian Comer of Sammamish (10K, 37:13.6) and Joshua Sharp of Oxnard (5K, 17:46.5).

Louisa Hays of Seattle (6th in the half marathon), Molly Gwinn of East Wenatchee (3rd in 10K) and Olivia Flack of Coupeville (4th in 5K) were the highest female placers.

Ty Eck, who will be an eighth grader at CMS in the fall, had the best local finish, nabbing second in the 5K.

If you had a Coupeville listed next to your name in the official race results (and my eyes didn’t glaze over too badly while jotting down results), you should see your name below.

If you’re not from Coupeville, tough, this is not Oxnard Sports.

Birthdays, birthdays as far as the eye can see.

Birthdays, birthdays as far as the eye can see.

And on March 13, the entire Wolf Nation was born.

OK, maybe not the ENTIRE thing, but a considerable chunk, that’s for sure.

Sharing today as their date of birth are former Coupeville High School Male Athlete of the Year Danny Savalza, golf sensation Austin Fields, foreign exchange multi-sport wonder Sophia Jebrail and big-time Wolf fan (and father of three CHS star athletes — two current and one to come) Randy Payne.

Someone, somewhere, is having cake today. That’s all I’m saying.

If you need to get rid of any of said cake, I’ll be working lunch and dinner shifts at Christopher’s on Whidbey Thursday.

Ask for David.
