Pancakes are calling your name.

Your stomach can help the Coupeville High School cheer team.

The Wolf cheerleaders are hosting a pancake fundraiser at Applebee’s in Oak Harbor this Saturday, January 18, with proceeds going to help fund a trip to nationals in Orlando.

Cost is $10, and the event runs from 9-11 AM.

Put some pancakes in your tummy and you’d be helping Ashleigh Battaglia, Ella Bueler, Karyme Castro, Coral Caveness, Emily Fiedler, Ja’Tarya Hoskins, Dawson Houston, Marenna Rebischke-Smith, Mica Shipley, Gavin St Onge, Bella Velasco, and Melia Welling.

For more info or questions, contact BreAnna Boon at (360) 720-1071 or Alia Houston at (360) 914-1630.

Your dollar bills, plus their sterling work ethic, can equal cheer nirvana.

Having found out late in the game that they qualified for nationals, the Coupeville High School cheer squad is in scramble mode right now.

The Wolves, in just their second year back on the competition cheer mats, are hitting big heights under second-year coach BreAnna Boon.

CHS, which fielded only a sideline cheer squad between 2012-2017, claimed 3rd place at the 1A state meet in 2018, giving the program its fourth top-four finish at the big dance.

Wolf cheer won a state title in 2006, then finished 2nd in 2007, and 4th in 2011, all under legendary coach Sylvia Arnold.

Now, Coupeville has an invite to Florida, having qualified for the National High School Cheerleading Championship.

That event runs Feb. 7-9, 2020 at the Walt Disney World Resort’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, and is televised on ESPN2 and ESPNU.

The Wolves could be seen in 32 countries and 100 million homes.

But, they need some help getting from Cow Town to Trophy Town.

Or, more specifically, they need to raise $8,000 to cover expenses for the trip, and are looking for sponsorship help from Wolf fans.

Individuals or businesses, cheer addicts or people who have no clue what a back spot, bow and arrow, or straight cradle might be – doesn’t matter.

If you’re loyal to the red and black, and want to see 12 extremely hard-working Wolf athletes and their coaches rewarded for their efforts, now is the time.

You’d be helping Ashleigh Battaglia, Ella Bueler, Karyme Castro, Coral Caveness, Emily Fiedler, Ja’Tarya Hoskins, Dawson Houston, Marenna Rebischke-Smith, Mica Shipley, Gavin St Onge, Bella Velasco, and Melia Welling, as well as CHS coaches Boon and Sarah Reinstra.

To donate, you can swing by Peoples Bank (107 S. Main) or contact Boon at Chscheer@outlook.com.

CHS cheer has a 501(c)(3) number, so any and all donations can be used as a tax write-off, with receipt provided.

Whether you’re Bill Gates or merely someone willing to shake out the couch cushions, everything helps.

“No donation is too big or too small,” Boon said, with her customary … cheery … outlook.

Battling for a loose ball, or the last cookie at a bake sale? (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

Have a spare buck? You’re in luck.

When you pop by the Coupeville High School gym this coming Saturday, Dec. 21, for that afternoon’s basketball doubleheader against Nooksack Valley, there’ll be something extra in the concession stand.

Actually, a whole lot of extra.

Along with the normal hot dogs, Red Vines, and popcorn, baked goods of all sorts will be on display, ready for your purchasing and chomping.

All goodies will be $1, so you can make it rain, just in a more PG kind of way.

Proceeds from the bake sale go to the CHS Class of 2021, whose parents run the concession stand.

Saturday’s games will be the final ones played in 2019, as the Wolf basketball squads head out on winter break afterwards, not returning to action until the first week of January.

Tip-off is 1:00 for girls varsity and boys JV, with boys varsity and girls JV games set for 2:45ish.

Unlike the Oscars, we don’t play anyone off stage mid-way through their thank-you’s.

With another Crab Feed in the books, the folks who put on the Coupeville Booster Club’s biggest fundraiser are flush with praise for everyone who helped, so we hand off the mic to them:

All the crab-tacular details.

Time to haul out your crab-eating utensils and give them a good polishing.

The biggest fundraiser of the year for the Coupeville Booster Club goes down Saturday, Nov. 9, with a few tickets left on the open market.

The annual crab dinner and auction, which raises money for CHS sports programs, is held at the Nordic Lodge on Jacobs Rd.

Money raised goes to fund grants, scholarships, equipment and more.

Among the items people will be able to bid on are:

*Ten weeks of fresh artisanal bread from The Oystercatcher.

*Beautiful metal art created and donated from the Homecoming King’s dad or a painting party taught by his mom, who is also a talented artist.

*Power tool from Frontier Lumber.

*The (very much requested) Barrow of Beer — a wheelbarrow donated from Ace Hardware that Ron Wright lovingly fills with an amazing selection of brew.

*Condo stay at Lake Chelan.

Plus, raffles to win gift certificates to get good eats at places like Jersey Mike’s, Applebee’s, and Kapaws Iskreme.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. To see the whole parade of auction items, you have to be there in person.

To obtain a ticket, pop back up to the photo above and grab your contact info.
