Battle for league supremacy heats up

And now they get back at it.

Coming out of spring break, Coupeville High School spring sports teams pick up steam again with multiple contests this coming week.

Softball tops the field, with four games on the schedule, while every Wolf squad is in action.

The CHS diamond queens travel to Sultan Monday, host Cedar Park Christian-Bothell Wednesday, then close out the week with a doubleheader Friday at La Conner.

Meanwhile, Wolf baseball matches their softball counterparts with matchups against Sultan and La Conner, spending their week entirely on the road.

Coupeville girls tennis and track and field also ride the bus, with the netters traveling to Oak Harbor Wednesday.

After a long break, Wolf runners, jumpers, and throwers assemble in North Kitsap Saturday for the Lil Norway Invite.

No games, but plenty of photos.

With spring break having sprung, Coupeville High School sports teams are taking a few days off between competitions.

But, thanks to photo whiz kid John Fisken, you can fill at least 11.2 seconds of the down time perusing the photos seen above and below.

They come from Wolf tennis, track, softball, and baseball games, and you can practically feel the rain, wind, and cold temps of spring sports in each new image.

Hit the pause button.

Just as outdoor sports get really rolling, spring break arrives and radically reduces the number of games being played.

The week ahead features just one game apiece for Coupeville High School baseball and softball, with both varsity teams traveling Tuesday to Orcas Island.

Meanwhile, Wolf girls tennis and track and field have nothing to look forward to except practice.

While we wait for things to kick back into high gear — it’ll happen the next week — take a gander at season-to-date Northwest 2B/1B League standings for three spring sports which keep track of win/loss records.

Sweet sweep for netters

The smallest school on Whidbey Island rocked the biggest.

Now, to be fair, 3A Oak Harbor put its C-Team on the tennis court Friday afternoon, when it hosted 2B Coupeville’s varsity netters.

But, even if my diploma came from OHHS many years ago, this blog is called Coupeville Sports, and we’re here to hype the Wolves.

So, mama said knock you out, and the Cow Town tennis squad did just that, blanking their big city hosts to a 7-0 tune.

With the victory, Coupeville improves to a pristine 2-0 on the still-young hardcourt season.

The Wolf duo of Hayley Fiedler and Vivian Farris had the most-lethal rackets Friday, throwing down a bagel job, but everyone in red and black was in a groove.

Fight for your right (to be in first place)

We’re starting to see some movement.

As we work our way towards the end of March, Northwest 2B/1B League teams are ramping up and beginning to play more conference tilts, accounting for some jockeying in the standings.

If weather permits, the week ahead will keep that trend going.

Coupeville High School baseball has four games in four days — all NWL bouts — hosting Mount Vernon Christian Tuesday and Darrington Wednesday.

After that, the Wolves head to Friday Harbor to face their biggest hardball rival in a Friday afternoon doubleheader.

Meanwhile, the CHS softball squad hosts Darrington, then plays its own twin-bill on Friday Harbor, while Wolf girls tennis travels to Oak Harbor Friday for a non-conference match-up.

Where things sit through Mar. 27:

Northwest League baseball:
