The photos were better than the games.

Visiting King’s made quick work of the Coupeville High School boys’ basketball teams Saturday afternoon.

But, while the scores weren’t pretty, the pics snapped by traveling photo man John Fisken managed to catch some of the Wolves in heroic poses.

So, enjoy the photos and ignore the scores. Tomorrow is another day, and the Knights will be long gone and off to pummel other teams the next time CHS takes the floor.

High-flying sophomore sensation Makana Stone is still on the ground, but for just a moment.

I believe I can fly.

That’s the mantra of the Coupeville High School girls’ basketball players, as they swoop and dive through the air above the hardwood on a regular basis.

On the scene Friday to catch some of the aerial acrobatics (and some ground-orientated action as well) was traveling photo man John Fisken.

Both Coupeville High School basketball teams will have tough battles tonight, with Cascade Conference powerhouse King’s the foe.

The Wolf boys (2-9 overall, 0-6 in Cascade Conference play) travel to Everett to face the Knights (9-2, 4-1), while the CHS girls (6-5, 3-3) play host against an 8-3, 5-0 squad.

Both games tip JV action at 5 PM, followed by varsity at 6:45.

To get you in the mood, we offer a medley of John Fisken photos from the most recent home game, which featured the Coupeville boys facing off with Granite Falls Tuesday.

Keep the faith.

And buy some photos. To see more of Fisken’s work (and help fund scholarships for CHS student athletes) check out:

"It's true!!"

“It’s true!!”

There is money to be made here.

Coupeville High School senior athletes are eligible for a new scholarship that is being offered by Whidbey Island photographer John Fisken starting this year.

Fisken, whose work can be found at http://www.cascadeathletics.com/index.php?district=1&league=2, will fund the scholarship(s) off of money raised from purchases of his photos.

The more sales, the higher the scholarship amount. The higher the amount, the chance it might be split into two scholarships.

To be eligible, a Wolf athlete needs to meet the following criteria:

*Be a full-time CHS student-athlete

*Have participated in at least two sports per year for all four years of high school

*NOT be getting any financial assistance from any college or university for sports

*Minimum 3.0 GPA

*Write a 500 word essay “How Sports Made Me A Better Person”

Interested Wolf athletes can get applications and more info at the CHS counseling office.

RE-JEC-TEEEEEED!

Clay Reilly is listed at five-foot-six on the Coupeville High School JV boys’ basketball roster, but he likes to play up in the clouds.

The freshman with the spring-loaded feet delivered the blocked shot of the season Tuesday against Granite Falls, as seen above.

Marvel at the height, the crunch, the sights and sounds of a Tiger’s dreams of scoring a basket come tumbling down.

Hard.
