"Um, what now?"

“Um, what now?” McKayla Bailey senses a disturbance in the photo force.

Mollie

“You’re both goin’ down, you old farts!!!” Surprise twist! Third sister Mollie Bailey is the real Photo Queen!!!! Or is she? Stay tuned… (Shelli Trumbull photo)

There’s a coup in progress.

For the last four years (at least), Coupeville High School senior McKayla Bailey has been the undisputed Photo Queen of Wolf sports.

Ruling with an iron fist, a willingness to pose from dusk til dawn and an uncanny ability to always know where the camera is, she’s been the gold standard here at Coupeville Sports.

But we need to acknowledge something.

Little sis McKenzie Bailey is making her move for the top.

Her game is strong, has been for awhile, and is just getting stronger.

And now, with tennis season kicking off, McKenzie is launching a full-bore assault on the throne.

But you know what they said on The Wire (sorta) — you come for the queen, you better not miss.

Bailey vs. Bailey. Who you got?

McKenzie Bailey and Wynter Thorne want another banner.

As the only two young women who are members of both of Coupeville High School’s girls’ basketball and tennis varsity squads, the duo have already been part of winning one Olympic League title.

Now, after helping the Wolves crush Klahowya 6-1 in Thursday’s tennis opener, Bailey and Thorne have their eyes on the prize again.

Cruising the fence, snappin’ pics of the duo and their teammates at work, was John Fisken, who provides us with the pics that reside above.

Wolf JV players/stat keepers (l to r) Tiffany Briscoe, Lauren Grove, Lauren Rose and Kyla Briscoe stake out their rooting section.

If the whole coaching thing doesn’t work out, Amy King can slide into being a photographer.

Of all the coaches at Coupeville High School, none so faithfully documents the behind the scenes adventures of her team like the Wolf girls’ assistant b-ball guru does.

The photos above, captured in the hours leading up to Monday’s playoff game, are just a small smidgen of her work.

Plus, a nice “blackmail” pic snapped by plucky Wolf senior Wynter Thorne, just to spice things up a bit.

It’s Thanksgiving and you’re likely sitting around, eating.

At that moment when you feel your fullest, take a moment and stroll over this way and partake of today’s conditioning-heavy photo essay, courtesy John Fisken.

Captured in the earliest stages of basketball practice for the Coupeville High School basketball squads, the photos depict a whole heck of a lot of running — exactly the sort of thing no one in their right mind feels like doing today.

But now, at least, you can say “Hey, I looked at people running. It made me tired. Workout accomplished. Now ‘scuse me while this pie and I go take a nap together…”

“And we still have our smiles!! Can’t feel our legs, maybe, but still smilin’!!”

There is one huge difference between male and female high school athletes.

It’s called a smile.

High school boys have been taught that you need to look tough in your team photos, or else you’ll look weak.

The next guy to ever smile in a wrestling team photo will be the first … ever.

Female athletes, on the other hand, feel no such qualms.

You can put them through the hardest practice, those days of conditioning, running lines and working on defensive positioning and, if they see a camera wandering by, they will still light up like a million Christmas lights.

At least that’s true in Coupeville, where the Wolf girls have never met a photo op they would turn down.

Superstars, one and all.
