By the time Hunter Smith is finished, he’ll have all the records.

He came into this year already owning a tie for the Coupeville High School single-season record for interceptions, having snagged seven last year as a sophomore.

During his junior campaign, he set new single-season records for receiving yards (916) and receiving touchdowns (11), while tying the single-game record with three TD receptions.

Barring some unforeseen calamity, Smith can claim sole possession of three CHS career marks next season.

He sits two interceptions, 11 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns from sitting alone on the throne with all three career marks.

The man chucking him the ball, fellow junior Hunter Downes, threw for 17 touchdowns in 2016, one off the school’s single-season mark.

He joined Brad Sherman and Corey Cross as the only Wolf QB’s to toss four TD’s in one game, blitzing Bellevue Christian’s defense late in the season.

With the one scoring strike he had before an injury derailed his sophomore campaign, Downes has 18 for his career, 15 shy of Sherman’s record of 33.

With 1,841 career passing yards, Downes is also just slightly over halfway to Sherman’s mark of 3,613.

With all that record-setting talk still fresh, a look at the final stats for the 2016 season:

Katrina McGranahan

Junior Katrina McGranahan was second on the Wolves in service points, aces and blocks and first in kills.

Hope Lodell finished #1, at least for the moment.

Adding 12 service aces during the district tourney Saturday, the Coupeville High School junior finished with a school single-season record of 110.

Those aces, by themselves, are more than any other Wolf player has had in their entire CAREER.

Lodell’s two-year total of 141 aces (she had 31 as a sophomore) sends her skyrocketing past former CHS career record holder Mindy Horr, who compiled 109.

Fellow junior Katrina McGranahan is in the on-deck circle to pass Horr, as well.

With 62 aces this year, she sits at an even 100 heading into her final season.

The 110 aces this season puts Lodell #1 across all divisions in Washington state (2B-4A), at least in terms of those who have reported stats to MaxPreps through Tuesday morning.

Coupeville, which had four players (Lodell, McGranahan, Payton Aparicio and Ashley Menges) land in the top 10 for aces by 1A players, destroyed the team single-season mark.

The Wolves launched 327 aces, easily topping last year’s mark of 201.

Looking at the final stats, several players made runs during the final weekend, with Emma Smith and McGranahan, in particular, surging in several categories.

Allison Wenzel also took advantage of what playing time was given her, accumulating her first serving stats of the season in the crucible of the playoffs.

Senior Valen Trujillo capped a remarkable run, pushing her school career record for digs to 550.

The final season-to-date stats for the Wolf spikers, who at 11-6, had their best season since 2004:

Hunter Downes (3) stalks the CHS record book. (John Fisken photo)

Hunter Smith, seen here hauling in a pass against Chimacum, could break several school records Friday night.

One night to bust the record books.

Coupeville High School faces its toughest football opponent of the season Friday when it hosts Cascade Christian (7 PM kickoff.)

The Cougars are 9-0 and ranked #5 in 1A by the Associated Press.

They also have the stoutest defense in the Olympic/Nisqually League, allowing just 12.6 points per game.

But expect Coupeville (3-6) to come out firing, regardless.

The Wolves, who are averaging a hair over 23 points a game this season, have a chance to bust several school records on Senior Night.

Though, if the records go down, they will be shattered by underclassmen.

CHS quarterback Hunter Downes sits two away from tying the school single-season record for touchdown passes in a season, trailing Joel Walstad 18-16.

If he connects with fellow junior Hunter Smith, it will allow his receiver to break a tie with Josh Bayne for the single-season mark for TD receptions.

Smith hauled in #10 last Friday against Chimacum to tie the mark.

Even if he doesn’t break the plane of the end zone, Coupeville’s most dangerous receiver could dismantle two other records, which have stood much longer.

Chad Gale racked up 844 receiving yards in 1987, and 29 seasons later, Smith sits at 791 yards on the season heading into the finale.

Reach 136 receiving yards tonight and Smith knocks Gale off the record book twice, as he would also take the career mark away.

Gale leads that race 1,345 to 1,210.

Oh, and there’s another career mark within Smith’s reach as well, though this one is on defense.

With three interceptions this season, he’s up to 11 overall, one shy of Bayne’s 12.

Two. That’s how many aces Hope Lodell needs to be the first Wolf to hit 100 in a season. (John Fisken photo)

Hope Lodell is pretty much the best server playing high school volleyball in Washington state.

At least among players whose coaches have submitted stats to MaxPreps.

As Coupeville (11-4 overall) prepares to host the district tourney this Saturday, a look at the regular season numbers finds the Wolves popping up 13 times among the best 1A has to offer.

From Valen Trujillo (#5 in digs) to Emma Smith (#17 in blocks), CHS players can stand with the best in their division.

But one Wolf is taking her name to a higher level, and that’s Lodell.

The junior has ripped off 98 service aces this season — a school single-season record — which puts her #1 in 1A and #3 across all divisions (2B-4A).

But, she trails Mollie Olson of Napavine and Samantha Johnson of Northwest Christian by just a piddly two aces, despite having way less opportunities at the line than either of her fellow snipers.

Olson has fired off 366 serves, Johnson 320 and Lodell just a relatively modest 260.

And yet she trails by just TWO aces.

That’s largely because Lodell is cranking out an ace on 37.7% of her serves, the best figure compiled by anyone in the top 50.

This could be a record-breaking season.

With two games left on the schedule, a pair of Coupeville High School football players are making bids to put their names on the program’s all-time record board.

Junior QB Hunter Downes and junior receiver Hunter Smith already tied CHS single-game records for touchdowns thrown and caught in a single game.

That came when Downes riddled Bellevue Christian for four scoring strikes, three of which went to Smith.

Now, Smith sits one snag away from tying Josh Bayne’s season record of 10 touchdown receptions, while also finding himself just 143 yards shy of Chad Gale’s mark (844 yards in 1987) for receiving yards in a single campaign.

When it comes to career marks, Smith sits 225 yards and six touchdowns off of Gale’s records (1,345 yards and 17 TD’s).

Downes is a little further away from his goals, but with a strong finish could make runs at Ian Smith’s single-season mark of 1,848 passing yards and Joel Walstad’s 18 touchdown passes in a year.

The Wolf gunslinger sits at 1,201 yards and 13 touchdowns and Friday’s foe, Chimacum, has the second-worst scoring defense in the Olympic/Nisqually League.

Cascade Christian, Coupeville’s final rival Nov. 4, is #1 in every defensive stat, however.

While the Hunter to Hunter passing attack is making a run at history, they are not the only Wolves putting up strong stats this season.

Here’s a look at where the whole CHS roster stands through week #8 on offense and defense, according to numbers posted on MaxPreps by Wolf coaches.

Complete kicking/kick-returning stats aren’t available at the moment, but are expected to be back in the mix by the end of the season, said CHS coach Jon Atkins.
