Saturday’s Cow Town Classic Invite drew a pack of athletes, coaches, and fans to Mickey Clark Field in Coupeville, where a day’s worth of track and field competition played out under sunny skies.

Along for the ride were a number of people wielding cameras, and the photos seen here come to us courtesy one of the most dedicated Wolf Moms.

Young track stars ready for the spotlight

No old farts allowed.

Saturday was all about the young guns, with the Coupeville High School track and field team competing at the 12-team Stanwood Frosh/Soph Invitational.

As the title of the event indicates, the meet was restricted to 9th and 10th graders, with athletes vying against rivals from their own graduating classes.

Though, in a couple of cases, Wolf freshmen moved up a rung and ran in relays with the sophomores.

Despite repping one of the smallest schools in attendance, the 2B Wolves held up well against their larger rivals.

The CHS girls earned a 6th place showing in the team standings, while their male counterparts finished 10th.

The 3A Stanwood girls and 4A Redmond boys, both featuring very deep rosters, finished atop the mountain.

Overall, the Wolves posted 30 PRs, with two athletes winning individual titles.

Freshman Tamsin Ward was tops in the shot put, while sophomore Wyatt Fitch-Marron scraped the sky in the high jump.

That duo has combined to snag five victories across the season’s first three meets.

Coupeville’s entire team gets back into action this coming Wednesday, Apr. 1, when the Wolves travel to the mainland for a Northwest 2B/1B League meet hosted by Mount Vernon Christian.

JV girls buried by three-ball barrage

It slipped away.

Locked into a tight battle for three quarters Tuesday, the Coupeville High School JV girls’ basketball squad couldn’t quite pull off a fourth quarter miracle.

Instead, visiting Friday Harbor used a 20-5 surge across the game’s final eight minutes to turn a tense tussle into a blowout and headed back to the bus with a 49-28 win.

The loss, coming in the Wolves first home game of 2026, drops CHS to 0-3 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 1-6 overall.

Coupeville hung tough for much of the game, trailing just 9-6 after one quarter and 17-11 at the half, before battling to a 12-12 tie in a barnburner of a third quarter.

Anna Powers and Ava Lucero each knocked down four points coming out of the halftime break to keep CHS within a couple of buckets before the dam finally broke in the final frame.

Friday Harbor stung the Wolves from long distance and did so repeatedly.

While the visitors couldn’t make a free-throw, going 0-3 at the charity stripe, they did splash home five shots from behind the three-point arc to bust things open.

Coupeville spread out its offense, with Lucero, Taylor Marrs, and Anna Powers each racking up six points, while Olivia Hall banked in five.

Zayne Roos (4) and Cami Van Dyke (1) also etched their names in the scorebook, while Willow Leedy-Bonifas, Emma Cushman, and Allie Powers all saw floor time for the Wolves, who return to action Friday with a trip to La Conner.

They’re learning the game from every angle.

Incoming Coupeville High School freshmen Taylor Marrs and Lillian Ketterling are not only top soccer players, but they’re sanctioned refs as well.

The duo, who have attended clinics and done hours of online work to prepare, were making calls at this weekend’s Washington Rush Cup at Skagit River Park in Burlington.

That tournament drew tons of teams, with multiple Whidbey Island-based squads winning titles.

Ketterling and Marrs suit up for a Deception FC team which didn’t play in the tourney, allowing them time to pick up their first assignments as officials.

“They did a great job and are gaining a lot of experience and knowledge of the game,” said Wolf Mom Emili Marrs.

“Which I’m sure they will put to good use on the field as they are also both ready to play girls soccer this fall as freshmen.”

Whidbey women, flexin’ on the world

Somewhere in the world today, a Central Whidbey girl is being dynamic.

Whether it’s on the softball field or soccer pitch, Coupeville’s young women are spending the summer scorching their rivals.

The pics above and below, poached off of their mom’s Facebook accounts, capture just a few of them.

They are Wolves, and they are gonna howl.
