Softball tryouts on tap this weekend

Have a daughter between the ages of 12-16?

Time to embrace your new life as a softball travel parent and unleash the Whidbey wrecking crew on the world.

The Island Vipers, who have fielded a very successful U14 squad comprised of players from Coupeville, Oak Harbor, and all those places down South, are looking to expand.

The plan is to have both a 14U and 16U team going forward, and tryouts are set for this Saturday, June 13.

They’ll be held at Coupeville’s Rhododendron Park starting at 10 AM.

All Whidbey girls ages 12-16 are welcome, though they can’t be older than 16 as of Dec. 31, 2024.

If your player can’t be at Saturday’s tryouts, you can set up a private tryout by contacting coach Grant Van Dyke at Islandvipers@yahoo.com.

Tryouts for the next season of Whidbey Island Thunder softball go down in Anacortes Aug. 19-20.

Coaches are hoping to fill four travel ball squads — 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U.

It’s your time to be loud ‘n proud.

Tryouts for the 2023-2024 edition of the Coupeville High School cheer squad go down Saturday, May 6 in the school’s gym.

The event runs from 9 AM until 3 PM that day.

The Wolves are looking for both female and male athletes.

The Whidbey Volleyball Club, which will have two teams this season, has set tryouts and registration is live on its web site.

Girls, hoop it up!!

Release the Kracken!

Want to play select basketball but don’t want to spend every day traveling off Whidbey for practice?

You’re in luck, at least if you’re a girl in grades 2-7 (or the parent of said girl).

Whidbey Elite, a competitive AAU program, is launching in Oak Harbor, and hopes to draw players from the entire Island.

Tryouts are Mar. 28 at Oak Harbor High School and the season runs April-August.

The squad will practice twice a week, with an optional third training day, and compete in tournaments throughout the Pacific Northwest,
