Coupeville’s James Steller finished 13th in the main event at Sunday’s Whidbey Island Marathon.

The 2022 edition of the Whidbey Island Marathon brought out 860 runners across four races Sunday morning.

But we’re only here to talk about 16 of them.

If you listed Oak Harbor, or Mukilteo, or some random city in West Virginia as your hometown, good on you for lacing up your running shoes.

But here, on a blog called Coupeville Sports, the only people to get their names published are those who actually listed Cow Town as their residence.

Want to see the other 844 names? Pop over to:

The Whidbey Island Marathon, scheduled for April 19, has been postponed.

The move was announced Monday.

The official release:

Greetings –

The Whidbey Island Marathon has always prized itself on showcasing the natural beauty of Whidbey Island while promoting an engaging, healthy lifestyle that brings our community together.

Additionally, Marathon Weekend brings thousands of visitors to support our local hotels, restaurants, stores and other small businesses in Oak Harbor and throughout Whidbey Island.

With the safety of our runners, residents, businesses, and visitors foremost in mind – Due to COVID-19 and the state mandates on crowd size limitations, the 2020 Whidbey Island Marathon will be postponed to a later date this year.

We are currently working with our event partners, city agencies, state parks and WSDOT to determine a new date.

The safety of all residents, participants, volunteers, sponsors and race officials is paramount and we appreciate your understanding while we navigate this challenging situation.

Once a rescheduled date has been set – we will reach out with the different options available for deferrals, rescheduling and more detailed instructions.

Please allow us some time working with our partners to get these plans in place so we can provide you with specific, detailed information.

We know you’ve been training hard to accomplish your goals and we wish we could see you at the finish line next month, but the safety of our participants, volunteers, spectators and residents is of utmost importance.

Please stay safe, practice social distancing, wash your hands and of course…KEEP RUNNING!

Don’t let this event or any other event being paused be the downfall of the training you’ve already put in.

Get outside, continue to train, keep achieving your fitness goals and stay healthy.

Share your accomplishments, stories and pictures with our running community.

We will see you soon runners!

– The City of Oak Harbor & The Fizz Events Race Team

Hundreds upon hundreds of runners descended on Whidbey Island Sunday, but we only truly care about 23 of them.

If we listed all the results from this year’s Whidbey Island Marathon, this story would go on and on and on some more.

But, since the blog is Coupeville Sports, and not, say, The Tallahassee Tattler, we’re only listing those who claimed Cow Town as their residence when they registered.

Makes my life a lot easier…

So, here we go, Coupevillians who enjoy getting up and going for a run at the crack of dawn.

Solid proof Raven and Willow Vick’s parents both completed the half marathon Sunday. (Maria Reyes photo)

Nearly 1,600 runners put shoe to pavement Sunday during the big four races at the Whidbey Island Marathon.

And, with apologies to Susanna Orr of Anchorage, Alaska and everyone else from far-flung locales, the race itself will have to be your reward, because I’m not printing all your names here.

Well, Miss Orr obviously made it … but you get my point.

The names below belong to those who openly claimed Coupeville as their hometown (since this is Coupeville Sports and not Anchorage Running Times).

Or, in a couple of cases, folks who tried to slip through by just putting US under hometown but had recognizable names.

Nice try, Sage Renninger, nice try.

Anyway, if I missed you, it’s either because you hid under a “fake” hometown or I’m just blind. One of the two…

First with the stats, first with the photos.

The Whidbey Island Marathon had barely ended Saturday and Coupeville Sports had results posted for all the Coupeville runners.

Doubt me? Just scroll down the page a story or two.

Now, thanks to madly-clickin’ camera whiz John Fisken, we have snappy pics of Cow Town-based runners, long before any of the Canadian-funded media outlets get going.

Speed, baby. All about that speed.
