Ally Roberts, she was born awesome. (John Fisken and Jennifer Eelkema-Roberts photos)

Ally Roberts, she was born awesome.

She is heir to a pretty impressive legacy.

Her grandfather (Sandy Roberts) was a legendary Coupeville High School coach.

Her dad (Jay Roberts), aunt (Sherry (Bonacci) Roberts) and uncle (Jon Roberts) were all premier athletes during their times as Wolves.

Her older sister (Madeline Roberts) is going to play softball on scholarship in college.

So it’s a good thing Ally Roberts is pretty dang awesome herself. Otherwise, she might not have much to talk about during family get-togethers.

But the CHS freshman, who celebrates her 15th birthday today, has already accomplished much in her short time as a Wolf.

Volleyball player, and sparker of the one-woman “Ally Rally.” Irrepressible cheerleader whose smile lights up the entire gym on its own. Both nice accomplishments.

But put her on a horse, and that’s where Ally really rules.

Her collection of ribbons and trophies is building at a staggering rate, and at the top of the pile is a state championship she claimed in intermediate trail riding at the Washington State Fair in September.

That event is no walk in the park, consisting of a rider taking their horse through a course that can include gate (open and close), bridge walk-throughs (cones or poles), jog- throughs (cones or poles), jog-overs (poles on the ground), back-throughs (L’s, U’s, serpentines), loping (circles, over poles) and sidepassing (i.e. to a mailbox).

What’s next for the pint-sized spark-plug? More ribbons, more trophies, more awesomeness, and then, probably total freakin’ world dominance.

So learn her name now, cause you’ll be saying it a lot over the next few years.

Wolf cheer coach Cheridan Eck.

They never stopped cheering.

The 14 young women who made up the Coupeville High School winter cheer squad brought the noise and the funk every game during basketball season.

Now, they’ve moved on, some to spring sports, some to school work and some to just taking a break after back-to-back cheer seasons.

But, before they went, they all earned letters from Wolf coach Cheridan Eck for their time on the sidelines.

The honorees:

Fiona Bernhardt
Destiny Bitting
Robin Cedillo
Emilee Crichton
Bree Daigneault
Shelby Hall
Naika Hallam
Sylvia Hurlburt
Emily Licence
Kenzie Moran
Camilla Rische
Ally Roberts

Want to pack the stands?

Bring in the little cheerleaders for a halftime performance and there won’t be an empty seat to be found.

That bit of wisdom applies to any season, and it was proven once again Friday as Coupeville High School celebrated Senior Night for its girls’ basketball and winter cheer squads.

With a ton of extremely-excited little girls mingling with the Wolf cheerleaders whose uniforms they may one day inherit, CHS cheer coach Cheridan Eck pulled off a successful performance that meshed skill with enthusiasm.

And enough camera flashes coming from one side of the gym to blind anyone sitting behind the CHS bench. Just saying…

Somewhere down there, in the haze of flashing cameras and waving cell phones was photographer John Fisken, who snapped these pics for you. Yes, just for you.

It played out to perfection.

Friday was Senior Night for the Coupeville High School girls’ basketball team and the Wolf winter cheer squad, with six girls (Breeanna Messner, Amanda Fabrizi, Sophia Jebrail, Aura Corredor, Emilee Crichton and Shelby Hall) honored in pre-game festivities.

Mementos were handed out, hugs flowed everywhere and younger teammates stepped up to the mic and, sometimes in voices that got choked up, said goodbye to the girls who led them through the season.

Then the Wolves went out and clocked visiting Granite Falls 43-20 in a game that was a romp from start to finish.

Now, whether you were in the stands (which were packed) or not, you can bask in the afterglow of the evening thanks to photos from travelin’ man John Fisken.
