Ace photo man John Fisken captured images of three different Coupeville High School teams Thursday, snapping baseball and softball, then hauling rear up to Oak Harbor to nab the Wolf track team as it competed in the four-team Whidbey Island Jamboree.

The most dominant track athlete on Whidbey Island is back, and she hasn’t lost a step.

Coupeville High School sophomore Makana Stone, who went more than 30 races into her first season before finishing something other than first, ran twice Thursday at the season-opening Whidbey Island Jamboree.

Spoiler: she won both races.

Sprinting to wins in the 200 and 400, Stone beat runners from 1A South Whidbey, 2A Lakewood and 3A Oak Harbor.

Her double victories were the best performance for any Wolf, while senior Nick Streubel claimed second in the shot put and sophomore Lathom Kelley (200) and freshman Lauren Grove (long jump) each nabbed third-place finishes.

Hunter Hammer is making history, one throw at a time.

The Coupeville High School grad, and one true Page Hit King, is competing for the inaugural track team at Trinity Lutheran College in Everett.

And now, two meets into the season, he’s already qualified for the National Christian College Athletic Association national track and field championships.

Hammer notched personal records in the shot put (47 feet, one inch) and hammer throw (148-4) at the HUB City Open in Centralia Mar. 15.

He placed second in both the hammer and discus, while claiming third in the shot put, and is qualified for the NCCAA’s in all three events.

He is currently ranked #1 in the NCCAA in the shot put.

Trinity Lutheran was founded in 1944, but is fielding a track team for the first time this season. Hammer joined throws coach Mary Parker in making the jump from Everett Community College.

Cue the rain. Cue the wind. It’s time for spring sports on Whidbey.

Did you really think the gentle, balmy, blue sky-drenched weather that we’ve seen the last week would last into the start of the actual seasons?

Oh, you sad, sad fool…

Well, weather or not, the 2014 spring sports season — the last one for Coupeville High School in the 1A/2A Cascade Conference — officially kicks off today, when the Wolf boys’ soccer squad hosts a jamboree (2 PM) at Micky Clark Field.

Lake Stevens and South Whidbey are in town, the event officially puts a stamp on Kyle Nelson’s hiring as Wolf coach (replacing the retired legend, Paul Mendes), and it will go on, regardless of weather.

Soccer doesn’t stop for anything short of a hurricane, and then it depends on what category of hurricane we’re talking about.

The lone CHS golfer, two-time state meet qualifier Christine Fields, was actually supposed to kick off the new season Friday, but excess rain caused a scheduled match at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club between South Whidbey, Overlake and the Lone Wolf to be postponed.

Monday, weather permitting, the season will move into being a full-on reality, with baseball traveling to South Whidbey, softball hopping across to Port Townsend and girls’ tennis welcoming Port Townsend to town.

Tuesday, Friday Harbor comes to Coupeville for soccer and tennis, Fields and her Falcon traveling mates go to Bush and softball squares off at home with arch-rival South Whidbey and its new coach.

Get your bets in now. How many games will be postponed and rescheduled due to weather in ’14?

I’m saying 71, and I feel pretty confident in that number.

Many faces, much awesomeness from Madison "Mad Dawg" Tisa McPhee.

Many faces, much awesomeness from Madison “Mad Dawg” Tisa McPhee.

She can kick your butt in more ways than you can count.

The woman, the myth, the legend … track records fall before her and wild horses come to heel out of respect … she needs two last names, cause one isn’t enough when you’re this awesome.

Casting an epic shadow across the sports world, where she ruled as a high school sprinter and hurdler, dabbled in soccer and volleyball, and continues to ride to multiple medals in any horse race you can put together, she is the chosen one, and it is her birthday.

She is Mad Dawg, the destroyer of nations, the quote machine unleashed, the best damn athlete to ever NOT be awarded Coupeville High School’s Athlete of the Year.

Which is fine, cause we all know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

I’m talking about Madison Tisa McPhee and you know it to be true.

Bow when she passes, cause that’s what you do when the legends walk by.
