From four games to no games, in a hurry.

Mother Nature has spoken, and tonight’s home basketball doubleheader between Coupeville and Sequim is not going down.

“Road conditions from Sequim to Port Townsend are sketchy and they had a two-hour delay because of them this morning,” said Coupeville Athletic Director Willie Smith.

“Temperatures are supposed to drop below freezing again tonight,” he added. “The Sequim AD and I both agree it’s safer to cancel and re-schedule tonight’s games then chance driving buses on icy roads.”

The games have tentatively been moved to Monday, Jan. 30, with start times of 3:30 and 5:15.

Weather couldn’t kill the game, but other factors finally did.

Coupeville was supposed to spend Saturday playing a girls soccer game against Bellevue Christian at Lake Washington, but things took one turn after another Friday.

First, storm concerns caused the two schools to move the game up from 4 PM to noon (while also bumping football from 7:00 to 3:00).

A few hours later, though, the non-conference soccer game was called off when BC decided it didn’t have enough players, due to injuries and girls who were out of town.

The game will not be made up.

Coupeville (4-1 in league play, 6-4-1 overall) returns to action Tuesday, when it hosts Klahowya (5-0, 7-1-2) in a battle for first-place in the 1A Olympic League.

The Wolves, who finished second in league in 2014 and 2015, close the season with four league games in an eight-day period.

**Football is still on, with a 3 PM kickoff at Lake Washington.**

Port Townsend heard Daniel Olson was on his way, and they took the easiest way out.

Unable to face being shredded by the Coupeville Middle School marksman and his run ‘n gun teammates, the mainlanders fell back on weather conditions and postponed Thursday’s scheduled basketball games.

The Wolves were about to board the bus and head to the ferry when the news came in that they would no longer be going to Blue Heron Middle School.

Earlier in the afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning to go from 2-10 PM today.

Southerly winds are expected to increase up to 40 mph late in the afternoon or early evening, with gusts of 60 mph possible.

With a very strong chance the Port Townsend/Coupeville ferry would revert back to being the Vomit Comet in the choppy water (or possibly be sidelined altogether in the wind), the decision was made not to potentially strand the Wolves on the other side.

No word yet on when, or if, the games will be made up.
