They’re loud ‘n proud in every season.

School’s out for summer right now, but Coupeville High School cheerleaders are still putting in the work.

The Wolves recently held a four-day camp at CHS, with 21 squad members, three coaches, and two instructors from the Universal Cheerleaders Association in attendance.

Led by head coach Jennifer Morrell and assistants Tara Crouch and Anthony Ford, the Wolves received a Superior trophy, and the squad earned a credentialing certificate after performing two routines for friends and families.

Ribbons were awarded to daily winners while eight Wolves earned a UCA All-American award, which goes to the top 10% of high school cheerleaders.

Pamela Morrell, Alysia Burdge, Tirsit Cannon, Mila Light, Ember Light, Abbigail Bond, Miles Gerber, and Bella Karr get a patch for their lettermen jackets and are now eligible to participate in All-American performances around the world.

In the words of Olivia Newton-John, “Let’s get physical.”

Even if today’s high school athletes have no clue what that means — you heathens — the words of the woman who played Sandy in Grease still ring true.

Fact one — you need a current physical to play sports, and fact two — Coupeville is the only one of Whidbey’s three high schools offering said poke-and-cough adventures.

Plus, since it’s a fundraiser for CHS cheer, you’re doing something for yourself and something for someone else.

What am I babbling about?

Go back to the photo at the top of the story, and then, in the words of Ben Stiller…

Loud, proud, and surrounded by pancakes.

Coupeville High School cheerleaders spent Saturday morning serving up hot breakfasts to customers at Applebee’s during a fundraiser for the Wolf spirit program.

It was the first of two money-raisers on the immediate schedule, as the cheer squad will also host a sports physical night at CHS June 10.

That event runs from 5-7:00 PM and costs $40 per student. Any questions about that night can be answered by dialing up (360) 678-2421.

Pancakes, sports physicals, and cheer — three things which go together in the world of fundraising.

The Coupeville High School cheer squad has two upcoming fundraisers on the schedule.

First up is a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s May 18, then comes a sports physical night in June.

Both events benefit the hardest-working cheerleaders in the Western hemisphere.

So, keep that in mind as you plan out your days and nights and count up your dollar bills.

They’ve left the gym, but you can still hear the cheers.
