The stage is set.

The Coupeville High School Wolf PAC Theatre Troupe grabs the spotlight the next two weeks, as it presents “Choices – an Evening of One-Act Plays.”

You get three plays for the price of one, with shows set for Nov. 4, 5, 10 and 12, with a 7 PM curtain time in the school’s performing arts center.

And yes, before you run to your calendar, those dates are correct.

While the first shows hit on a traditional Friday/Saturday schedule, week two bumps the Friday show to Thursday.

This is because the troupe has five members who are pulling double duty in the school’s honor band and choir.

Ticket prices are:

Adults – $6.00
Senior citizens (62 or older) – FREE
Coupeville students (grades 6-12) without ASB – $6.00
Coupeville students (grades 6-12) with ASB – FREE
Coupeville students (K-5) – $4.00
Visiting students with ASB – $4.00
Preschool with adult – FREE

You can also get a family deal for $15, which covers one adult and four children or two adults and two children.

This production, unlike some others, is aimed at a slightly older audience.

“I personally do not recommend this show for younger children – mostly because it would “go over their heads”,” said CHS drama advisor Peg Tennant. “I do recommend parents of middle schoolers come with their children – all three plays provide food for good conversation.”

The plays are “My Daily Life” (choices have consequences), “Fried Dough Girl” (choices have costs) and “The High School Drama” (choices can change).

Two. That's how many aces Hope Lodell needs to be the first Wolf to hit 100 in a season. (John Fisken photo)

Two. That’s how many aces Hope Lodell needs to be the first Wolf to hit 100 in a season. (John Fisken photo)

Hope Lodell is pretty much the best server playing high school volleyball in Washington state.

At least among players whose coaches have submitted stats to MaxPreps.

As Coupeville (11-4 overall) prepares to host the district tourney this Saturday, a look at the regular season numbers finds the Wolves popping up 13 times among the best 1A has to offer.

From Valen Trujillo (#5 in digs) to Emma Smith (#17 in blocks), CHS players can stand with the best in their division.

But one Wolf is taking her name to a higher level, and that’s Lodell.

The junior has ripped off 98 service aces this season — a school single-season record — which puts her #1 in 1A and #3 across all divisions (2B-4A).

But, she trails Mollie Olson of Napavine and Samantha Johnson of Northwest Christian by just a piddly two aces, despite having way less opportunities at the line than either of her fellow snipers.

Olson has fired off 366 serves, Johnson 320 and Lodell just a relatively modest 260.

And yet she trails by just TWO aces.

That’s largely because Lodell is cranking out an ace on 37.7% of her serves, the best figure compiled by anyone in the top 50.

As you count down the hours until the first district match (1:30 PM Saturday), some statsy stat stats to peruse:

Joey Lippo

William Nelson

William Nelson gets elegant.

Now they wait six months and hope for a miracle.

Coupeville High School netters William Nelson and Joey Lippo went back to Tacoma Tuesday for one more round of postseason action, but failed to get the win they needed to guarantee their season would continue.

The Wolf juniors got stronger as the match progressed, but couldn’t overcome their private school foes, falling 6-1, 7-5 to Micha Wibowo and Jack Jorgenson of Charles Wright Academy.

With the win, the CWA duo claimed second place at the 1A West Central District tennis tourney, giving the Tarriers a sweep of the top two doubles slots.

Wibowo and Jorgenson will join district champs Dylan Sam and Raghav Agrawal at the state tourney in Yakima next spring.

For the Coupeville pair, who finished third in a field of eight teams at districts, their season is 99.98% done.

Why not 100%?

Because Washington state high school sports are a mess.

Some schools play boys tennis in the fall (like CHS), while a ton wait until the spring.

With that in mind, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association doesn’t announce state tourney allocations for each district until May, regardless of when that district plays.

Coupeville’s current home, District 3, is guaranteed two state slots, and there’s a (very) slim chance of landing a third.

Which means you can hold onto hope even if longtime Wolf coach Ken Stange admitted earlier in the week it would be “very unlikely.”

Of course, six months is a long time, and if something were to happen to either Charles Wright duo (skiing accidents? alien abduction? bribes?), Coupeville is first up as an alternate, as well.

If nothing else, Nelson and Lippo, who should be playing soccer and baseball, respectively, when spring arrives, led a strong Wolf showing in the postseason.

After winning its second straight 1A Olympic League title, Coupeville advanced eight netters to districts, most of any team there, and most in Stange’s decade-plus run as the school’s net guru.

Singles players Nick Etzell and Jakobi Baumann and doubles duos Joseph Wedekind/John McClarin and Grey Rische/Jimmy Myers joined Lippo and Nelson at districts.

Of that group, Etzell, Baumann, Lippo and Nelson are underclassmen and can return next season.

Genna Wright wants you to join the Coupeville Booster Club. You don't want to make Genna sad, do you? Yeah, I thought not. (John Fisken photo)

Ah, so the headline suckered you in, did it?

Nice … nice.

So, now that I’ve got your attention (at least for a few seconds), I want to seize the chance to try and convince you to join the Coupeville Booster Club.

You’ve thought about it. You’ve come close, but you just need that final shove.

Well, I’ve got two hands and I know how to use them!

But seriously, this is a no-brainer, people.

The Booster Club is the engine which drives Wolf athletics, and it’s an invaluable resource for CHS and CMS coaches, athletes, parents and fans.

They’re the ones going above and beyond, from funding scholarships to buying varsity letters to providing snacks for teams stuck on long bus and ferry trips to clothing Wolf coaches in snazzy polo shirts.

Want to help support them? Become a member today!

You don’t have to go to all the meetings and join the inner circle and get full voting rights (though you certainly can).

The first step is always the easiest and it simply involves you getting out your checkbook, credit card or random wad o’ cash and becoming a supporter of the Booster Club’s efforts.

There are four membership levels:

$25 makes you a Wolf backer.

$50 buys you an individual membership.

$75 nets you a family membership.

$125 gets you a business membership (with Wolf flag included).

PS — The secret fifth membership, known informally as the “Bill Gates level,” is if you step in and personally finance an entirely new football field (with domed stadium) on your own.

Do that and the community gives you a parade and carries you through town on its shoulders, shouting your name as chocolate and roses rain down from the skies above for hours on end.

To join the Booster Club, there’s a couple of quick and easy options.

You could mail a check (written to “Coupeville Booster Club”) to P.O. Box 452, Coupeville, WA 98239.

Pop over to the Club’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coupeville-Booster-Club/83614917107 and use a credit card.

Or swing by the club’s booth at Wolf games and see the magic happen in person.

Do it today. Your soul will thank you.

They made things easy on the photographer.

Thanks to a last-second change in the schedule, the Coupeville High School JV football squad ended up playing Monday in Oak Harbor.

That was enough to lure wanderin’ paparazzi John Fisken out of his nearby home and away from the Halloween candy.

We’re still waiting on any candy, though…
