“Well, they call me UPS, cause I always deliver!!”

Basketballs were bouncing and trash talk was flowing.

Well, at least I’d like to think so.

Regardless of whether there really was any yapping Wednesday, there was plenty of hoops action playing out in the Coupeville Middle School gym.

The highlight (at least for the locals) came in the 8th grade varsity game, where the Wolves used a 32-8 second half surge to shred visiting Sultan 57-23.

Working the sidelines to give you a feel for the action was photo whiz kid John Fisken, who delivered the pics that reside above.

“I learned this move from the five minutes of “Kill Bill” I saw on TNT that one time. It does NOT end well for you, son!!”

Um

“Um … coach Bob, he just went all “Karate Kid” on that dude. Can I do that, too? Coach Bob … COACH BOB?!?!?”

John Fisken outdid himself.

The wandering sage of the photography game slid through town Wednesday and fired off a few thousand clicks of the camera as the Coupeville Middle School boys’ basketball teams clashed with visiting King’s.

The seven pics above, action-packed all, are just a hint of what he captured.

After you bask in their glow (and either chuckle or grimace as you read my contributions — the “carefully” crafted cutlines), hop over to the links below and see the rest.

Be there or miss the moment when this guy goes coast-to-coast, breakin’ ankles all the way.

The young guns are ready to strut their stuff.

The Coupeville High School basketball squads are just getting going, but the Wolf middle school boys are already smack-dab in the middle of their season.

It’s a win-win for local fans, who can leave work early and catch the CMS hoopsters at home today.

If your rear can take the hardest bleachers in all the land, you can see four games for a very reasonable price (free), starting at 3 PM in the middle school gym (across the hallway from the high school gym).

King’s is the opponent and the 8th grade JV will play first, followed by the 7th JV, 8th varsity and 7th varsity.

Maybe think about bringing a cushion, cause I’m not kidding. Those CMS bleachers are like something out of “The Flinstones.”

The Coupeville gunners are alive and kicking.

Powered by high-scoring Cow Town residents Aram Leyva and Matthew Kelley, the Whidbey Islanders BU13 FC 01 soccer squad is cruising along at 7-1-2 on the season.

The Islanders head into a showdown for second-place in their 12-team league with a road game at Tracyton Nov. 22, then close the regular season with a make-up game in Oak Harbor Dec. 6.

Whidbey won its most recent game, bouncing visiting Snohomish United 2-1 Nov. 15.

Leyva punched in the first goal of the game, launching a 25-foot shot from the right side.

Kelley tacked on a score mere moments later, squeezing between two defenders and popping a hard shot into the far corner of the net.

Snohomish rallied a bit in a very physical game, scoring on a penalty kick re-do.

Its first shot was blocked, but an Islander strayed into the box early, giving United renewed life.

After that, it was all about the defense, as Whidbey shut down the field and held on for the crucial win.
