Lindsey Roberts runs wild!!

The next great track star is on her way.

While sophomore Makana Stone continues to shatter records for Coupeville High School, there’s another fast-rising sensation coming up through the middle school ranks to one day join her.

Coupeville Middle School 7th grader Lindsey Roberts, daughter of former CHS Athlete of the Year winners Jon and Sherry (Bonacci) Roberts, won all four of her events Thursday at a three-team meet in Granite Falls.

With wins in the 200, 1600 and 75 meter hurdles, plus the anchor leg on a victorious 4 x 100 relay squad, she sparked the Wolves to a team win over Lakewood and the host Tigers.

The CMS 7th grade boys finished second, while both 8th grade squads came in third.

Other multiple winners for Coupeville included Reed Richards, Mckenzie Meyer, Chris Battaglia, Ty Eck and Gabe Eck.

Middle school track returns to blow your mind!!

The next pack of Wolf track stars is here, and they’ve got talent to burn.

Competing in the first meet of the season, Coupeville Middle School captured 15 titles Wednesday at a three-team meet in Langley.

And with six of those titles coming from the 7th grade girls, that squad bounced Lakewood and Langley to capture the team title.

Sprinter Kalia Littlejohn and thrower Maddy Hilkey were two-event winners for the 7th grade girls’ squad, while 7th grade boys Ty Eck and Chris Battaglia were the big winners on the male side.

Battaglia took home three titles, winning the 1600 and high jump, while also running a leg on a victorious 4 x 200 relay team.

Now it’s on to high school basketball for Kyla Briscoe (25) and Co.

CMS 8th grade basketball guru Brett Smedley.

They went out with a bang.

Closing their season, both of Coupeville Middle School’s varsity girls’ basketball teams thumped host Langley Wednesday.

The Wolf 8th grade varsity came out on top 28-22, while the 7th graders rolled to an impressive 33-20 victory over their Whidbey rivals.

The Falcons got a bit of revenge in the JV games, pulling out 12-6 and 6-5 wins.

A season of big wins and big growth now comes to a close, but the ride was worth it for CMS coaches Bob Martin, Brett Smedley, Ryan King and Christine Wright.

“We are so proud of all the girls!,” Martin said. “Wrapped up the season on very well played defensive games!”

Much like her mom, former Wolf superstar Sherry (Bonacci) Roberts, CMS sharpshooter Lindsey Roberts always has her eyes on the bucket.

It all ends today.

Capping their season, the Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball squads will hit the long and winding road one last time, with a short jaunt down the Island to Langley.

The match-up between Whidbey rivals (3 PM tip) ends an eight-game season and will be the swan song for a talented eighth grade varsity team led by Katrina McGranahan and Mia Littlejohn.

The next time local fans will see them and teammates such as Sage Renninger, Kyla Briscoe and Lauren Rose sporting the red and black on the hardcourt will be as high school players.
