Senior Night will NOT be the last home game for the Coupeville High School girls’ basketball teams.

CHS Athletic Director Willie Smith, working the phones until the end, has found an extra contest for the Wolves.

The foe is Orting, and the Cardinals will make a 190-mile round trip to Cow Town Saturday, Feb. 3 to play varsity and JV games.

The non-conference rumbles slot between the aforementioned Senior Night Feb. 2 against Friday Harbor, and a regular season-ending road trip Feb. 6 to La Conner.

Tipoff is 2:00 PM for JV and 3:45 for varsity.

Orting, which is a 2A school, plays in the South Puget Sound League.

The Cardinals varsity currently sits at 4-7, while its JV is 2-7.

The Great Bus Driver Shortage of 2021 is benefiting Coupeville fans this time around.

Wednesday’s girls soccer match between the Wolves and Mount Vernon Christian was supposed to be played off-Island, but now it’s coming to Whidbey.

That means all the Coupeville booters who just celebrated Senior Night will get an unexpected extra game at Mickey Clark Field.

Closer and closer.

The Coupeville Middle School boys soccer squad has faced Northshore Christian Academy three times this season, and, each time out, the Wolves have narrowed the margin.

Monday afternoon CMS fell to their private school foes 3-0 in a game at Mickey Clark Field, the closest they’ve gotten so far during their inaugural season.

Now 2-5 on the year, the Wolves hit the road for their next two games, playing Wednesday at Lakewood, then Oct. 21 at Granite Falls.

The season finale is Oct. 23 at home, the fourth match-up with Northshore.

While his team has yet to topple NSCA, Coupeville coach Reese Cernick looks forward to the battles.

“We play each game a bit better against them,” he said. “Last week we lost by a lot more.

“We have one more game against Northshore, and I think if we can work on a few things, we have the ability to beat them.”

A month is a long time.

But that’s almost how much time will pass between home games this season for the Coupeville High School boys’ soccer squad.

A variety of things have affected the schedule, but the last time the Wolf booters stepped on their home pitch against a real live foe was Mar. 28, when they routed Forks.

The next time CHS will play at home?

April 23, when Chimacum comes to Whidbey for an Olympic League game.

As a public service, we’re running the photos above to remind local fans what the Coupeville boys’ soccer players actually look like in action.

You’re welcome.
